The audition went well. There were a number of tunes that they singer forwarded to me as a brush up a couple of days prior to the audition although.... The songs the lead singer sent me were in the wrong keys!!! It had been a while but I needed to do an on-the-fly transposition for all the 10 numbers they passed on. Dammit "singers" grrrrrr! I picked out a two more songs from their set-list and asked if they wanted to do those also. Ahhh Summertime! I love that tune played it so many times before and really have a great series of riffs that sit well with the progression. I think I blew them away with that one. The creme de la creme was my version (actually Ray Browns' version of You are my Sunshine) The three of them were just staring at me and stopped playing. I got a "stiffy" over that! The next auditionee was due in a couple of minutes so I asked to stop. The singer said that I do not need to be uncomfortable by playing in front of the other guy. I said that "I'm not uncomfortable, I don't want him to hear any of my chops!" As he was bringing his gear in I left my roadcase open with the Series I shining like the piece of art it is, and looking all sweet and cool in its golden envelope of velour. That should intimidate him. As I was leaving the drummer offered to help me load up my car and followed me out. He would not stop engaging in conversation and was very friendly (not in a gay way either). In summary: They have 3 more folks to audition next week and I will find out Friday if I get the spot. What I learnt; 1. Preparation! Practising the patterns on the fretboard helps. 2. Be willing to add some value to the lineup have a showcase piece or two to highlight your capabilities. 3. Get some good vibes from the brilliant folks at the Alembic club forum. Thanks guys and girls! slawie |

It's an interesting question. From the perspective of the band members, it's kinda like listening to one stereo for a while and then listening to a different one. If the band members have been listening to a Series I for a while, the difference in tone from that to the next bass might be significant. |
