I've got a gig with my band again at the Birmingham Artsfest 2010.
Fortunately we have managed to get a spot at the Birmingham Symphony hall. The venue is HUGE!! and we are really looking forward to playing in one of the best concert halls in the world.
if you are around Birmingham on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of Birmingham there will be loads of free gigs around the city centre and some large outdoor stages too.

For more information check out the festival web site.
http://www.artsfest.org.uk/

We are doing a few numbers by Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Jeff Lorber.

This place sounds amazing. Here's another view.

From wikipedia:

"A particularly innovative feature is the hall's acoustic flexibility. It has a reverberation chamber behind the orchestra and extending high along the sides, adding 50% to the hall's volume, the doors to which can be remotely opened or closed. The U-shaped reverberation chamber area has a volume of 12,700 cubic metres (450,000 cu ft). There is an acoustic canopy which can be raised or lowered above the orchestra. Dampening panels can be extended or retracted to ensure that the 'sound' of the space is perfectly matched to the scale and style of the music to be performed. There are also reverse fan walls at the rear of the hall which provide further reflections of sound."

And admission is free!!

You definitely need to get someone to take some really good pics of you on that stage! But it would really be cool to come hear you play in that room! What a cool gig!

Gulp..... yeah thats the place. Now looking at the picture it looks huge. It's a great place for live music. I've been there to see some great bands. In recent years Herbie Hancock, Hugh Masekela, Wynton Marsalis, Nigel Kennedy and Anoushka Shankar.
All sounded great except the electric bass which I find along with other large venues sounds quite muddy.
I just hope the venue gets me a good sound.
Yeah I will ask some mates with expensive digital SLR's to take some snapshots.

Are you in the main hall Jazzy? When I worked in Bourneville in the 90's we used to get free tickets for classical concerts. The acoustics were incredible. Even at the back of the circle you could hear evey instrument perfectly.

Hope you have a great gig. I have a gig up here the night before otherwise I'd have come down (we're overdue meeting up with old friends from worcester). Never mind - some day.

Yep we are in the main hall on that huge stage.
This is the view from the stage looking out into the venue.
Hopefully there will be more punters than are shown in the photo. :-)

Hey not long back from the gig. It was a scorcher. We blasted the place with some great music and got an amazing response from the crowd. Considering we didn't have a soundcheck the sound we got in the venue was described as fantastic. Here are a few pics from the gig.

I even managed to avoid the boomy bass sound that I often hear at large venues and worried that I would suffer from too.
I've been to many gigs and festivals this year with my girlfriend and got her ears to understand the boomy bass sound and then today she was able to give me feedback on my sound during soundcheck so I was able to open up the bridge filter to add some crispness to the tone and all was well.

Here are a few pics.

I have to say it felt fantastic playing on such a great stage in that amazing concert hall knowing that so many of the great musicians of our time have performed there also

Walking on there with my Alembic made it even more special.

Wow, what a venue. Nice one JV! My last Alembic-toting gig (with my black Spoiler) in the UK was to about 100 drunk/possibly drugged punks at a Punkfest! The SC looks very cool

looks like you had a fantastic time jazzy! I'm jealous as hell. In complete contrast to your gig, we spent saturday night cooped up in the smallest, hottest venue we've ever played. Great audience but rubbish sound.

Very nice.
I just subscribed to your channel as well. Is that a fretless? You've got a great tone for the song here.
