Darn! After pressuring you to go for the last few years this'll be the first time I'll be missing the event. I have to play a wedding in Blair Castle (Blair Atholl north of Pitlochry) on Saturday night and I'll not get back to thhe Edinburgh area till around 4am. There's no way I'd be able to drive to Manchester after that. I'm pretty sure Mike Pisanek is going (you met him at the stanley gig)..

plus, Shaun Elliot (bigbadbill on here and TAYSTE2000 on basschat) will almost certainly be thare and so will Colin clowes known on here as colbassman If you see any of them be sure to say hello and send my apologies for not attending this year. Also, say hi to Bernie Goodfellow on his GB guitars stand and Chris May on his overwater stand - they're both great guys who are easy to chat with and have some interesting perspectives on guitar making. Graeme (jealous as hell that I can't make it) |

I doubt that I will come home with any big purchases, but it will be good to see what is around in the market place. I hope to get a chance to hear a Ritter bass. Jazzyvee |

Been here an hour and not impressed with the setup so fan. Not as big as i thought. Just looks like bass shop open on a sunday but you have to pay to get in. ! Gonna see stu hamm in a bit that may save the day. I had a chat with a guy from a uk bass maker who was not very complimentary about alembics. He said the series basses are for collectors and not for playing and the pnly good bass alembic make is the elan. I tried one of his basses that sounded like a good fender jazz bass. He defended that with, many people want a fender bass sound but want it from a different bass. |

Forgive my spelling on the previous post as I was using my iphone which is very frustrating to write anything more than a few words on. After spending a good part of the day at bass day and trying out quite a few different basses that were there, I still have the view that Alembic is standing out in front with a few others in providing a great non-fender bass sound. Victor Bailey was great to listen to and hear his experience and stories. The one he repeated many times was the point his dad reminded him of as a youngster.... "Son, you pay the bills with the first 5 frets" He answered some interesting questions. One that made us laugh was when he was asked about what he thought of all these players who have incredible technique and play very fast and flashy stuff. His reply was, I hear and see lots of people doing that but I don't hear any music and look at where most of these guys are, they are either in workshops or at home. They are not doing gigs and making music. " Son... you pay the bills with the first 5 frets" :-) Unless the bass day gets much bigger or there is a really big name to draw me there. I won't be rushing up there again. For what was there £23 was a bit expensive. Jazzyvee |

It's a shame you didn't have a good day Jazzy. I reckon half the fun is in having good company at this event so it's a shame that Mike and I couldn't make it. Graeme |
