Sometime ago, I saw an Alembic Jazz bass, made with an ash body at the back, and a beautiful figured walnut front. I t had 2 Jazz pups, a volume, pan, filter and switch, and was gold plated.
WELL----I was in Glasgow (Scotland) yesterday at a shop called "Guitarguitar" (absolutely amazing instruments--and hundreds of them) and guess what--There it was hanging on the wall. They want £2900 for her, but she looks brand new--not even a hairline scratch on the back!
I just had to play her, and she is very nice indeed although the tonal range is not as great as my old 76 Series 1.
Anyone interested, check out the shop on the net---Must warn you though, she weighs a ton!!!!!!

Hi Jazzy
Well, it's neither of those!!
I'm sure it's somewhere on the Alembic site though I'm not sure how to find it.

It has a Jarrah burl top and ash back!
If you go to the "guitarguitar site, then select GLASGOW shop, and scroll down through the second hand items, you'll see it there.
There are 2 small images to the right of the bass that you can enlarge to get a good close up.

It's the one that was in the Edinburgh Guitar Guitar a couple of months ago. I guess they figure the good folks of Glasgow have more disposable income ;-).

It looked a really nice instrument and in perfect nick but I didn't play it as they had it on the wall and i was in a bit of a hurry. I'd say the price for a used essence would be considered high by our transatlantic cousins but for a near perfect Alembic bass in this country it has to be a bargain. Especially when you see the UK Alembic dealer down in sevenoaks has 2 similar instruments at nearer £4000 (probably the 2 on Jazzy's ebay links).

I can say that there is not a single mark on this bass.
The sound is superb, and is perfectly balanced between the pups.
All I would say, is that it weighs a ton!!, and that it does not have the range of a Series bass---butGraeme will probably tell you more about the range of Series instruments, as he knows more about my instrument that even I do!!!

It's back in Edinburgh. I was in Guitar Guitar this morning arranging for a couple of Mesa cabs to be there and they had this bass back on the wall. Apparently it had been taken to Glasgow as someone wanted to try it out.
