O.K. That opens up Tribbles and Dilithium crystals! And while we're on the subject of Star Trek, last weekend I bought a portable GPS (Nuvi 350 - GREAT unit), you know one of those little boxes that hooks up to a bunch of satellites and gives you directions. This one actually talks to you. You can set it for several different voices, male or female, American English, British English, Australian English, or a bunch of other languages. I was thinking it would be really cool if these things came with the choice of Majel Barrett (computer voice in ALL Star Trek episodes and movies) and Hal 2000 from 2001. Of course you'd have to be careful with the Hal 2000 voice: "take a right here, Dave" and it sends you off a cliff! LOL Bill, tgo |

From the way you folks are acting, one would think that this month's special includes window pane for any participating members of this tread. Don't forget kids safety first! Oh ya and also don't forget to use feeler gauges when restoring those set ups. You also will want to record your measurements and climate conditions for future reference. ARk ARK Alert! This just in... From your Radio Dinner Hour.... There appears to have been a large number of high jacking's on the road to Sturgis South Dakota. An enormous number of pizza boxes have been seen driving Harley motorcycles leaving Deadwood... Oh wait... I am being told that it really isn't a high jacking after all. It would appear that a local pizza parlor was the site of a rather large lottery winning. This has lead to the acquirement of brand new Harley Davidson motorcycles for all the pizza boxes in the parlor... All this just in time for the nations most famous Rally. What an exciting time this is for sure... You certainly won't want to miss this one. With such a large amount of winnings, these Brand new custom bikes and thier proud owners are bound to create the most competitive loud pipe contests seen in years at the famous Broke Spoke Saloon... Back to you Turnip. |

Thanks. One day I'll check my fears and pre-conceived notions at the door and pay it a visit. Whenever there's a day or two in the summer with lots of Harleys headed west I always wonder if it's Sturgis time. I wonder if Kevin has been able to make a decision about playing or not playing it.. I'm going to propose Bradley's Bromide: Any thread of sufficient length on the Alembic club will be hijacked by someone wanting to talk about motorcycles or beer or both. And the corrolary: Any thread about beer or motorcycles or both is free game. Turnabout is fair play. Bradley |

Actually, being titled "Bike Week," I don't think this thread got hijacked nearly so badly as has been implied, especially given that Kevin (Rockbassist) hasn't complained as far as I can tell. Add the bonus that Kevin's issues/concerns have been discussed by the group as Kevin intended (by creating and posting to the Bike Week thread). Now we're pretty much having a good laugh (or six) while waiting to hear how things are going with Kevin and whether or not he's doing the gigs, some of the allure of which must surely be all the bikes... As far as I'm concerned (and until Dave suggests to me otherwise), ALL discussions are exactly that. It's the difference between talking *with* someone and talking *at* someone, and ANY interesting discussion is going to take a turn or two down an unexpected path. If the initiator of a thread doesn't like the topic-drift, that's one thing, because it's still his or her thread (somewhat). If one of us who simply chimes-in doesn't like where it's going, then tough teabags! It's the Internets, people! For myself, the perfect thread: a) glorifies me and everything I do or say b) mentions how awesome my Alembic is c) has offers to buy me dark dark beer d) notes the simplistic beauty of the KLR650 e) contains pictures I find appealing f) glorifies me and everything I do or say John (who still needs coffee this morning) |

Well, from time to time I've kinda wanted to address this issue anyway, so I'll hijack this thread and address it here. As a general rule, I think you probably wouldn't want to hijack someone's FTC thread or Showcase thread or For Sale or Wanted thread. And posting a lot of off topic messages in a Troubleshooting thread could make it hard to follow the diagnosis and treatment discussion, especially in a thread that might or could have eventually become a Must Reads selection. Some threads have not become Must Reads just for this reason. And I wouldn't think you would want to hijack a serial number thread, especially before Mica has had a chance to respond to the request. And you might not want to clutter up a Dreaming thread if there's an ongoing discussion about a probable custom order. And I would think that you wouldn't want to get too far off course in someone's Gigs thread. However, any thread that starts out by talking about bikes or beer should definitely be hijacked as soon as possible. <g> Common sense and respect for fellow club members should generally be a good guide. |

I personally don't see where this thread was "hi-jacked" per say. I do beleive it has strayed some from its original post but looking back over it I don't see one single post that "stole the show" so to speak. It has been fun though. I love the witt and humor of musicians. |

OK OK I apologies, Yes it was I whom first use the H word. However in my own defense it was kinda tongue in cheek. I didn't realise it would be taken so seriously. I just figured it was a tread for those of us who have played the ralley's. not a showcase for motorcycles, although those are some very nice looking rides! Sorry I caused such a stir. Roy |

One would think that in the context of this club. Alembic basses showing up at the ralleys, are at least as important as the bikes themselves. I guess the tread title left things a little to wide open. Not that i'm trying to push the blame off on anyone.Just innocent consequence going on I think. |

Here's something to laugh about: Vantage Bass guitar on e-bay. Offered as Alembic style bass guitar. Check those details, stunning! The best thing is right next to "condition", it says "good"... well ok but what comes after that is ludicrous, check for yourself: Click here I think the price is fair though. Check this guy's e-bay store, there are some nice items there. btw I think this thread IS a must read, Alice in chains! YES! (Check first message) |

Roy, Sometimes I take the wrong things too seriously and entirely miss the intended meaning within the context! And Alembic basses showing up (and sounding off) ANYWHERE is important stuff! It's all good... John who HAS hijacked (inadvertantly) many a thread himself... |

I was just making some suggestions. Since the subject of hijacking had been brought up, I thought I would share some things I had been thinking of for a while. Hijacking isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it often can turn out to be a good thing, taking a discussion to a subject that can be helpful to members. For instance, a thread on a particular speaker cab might morph into a discussion on ohms and how that relates to matching power amps and speaker cabs generally. So I don't think I meant to lay down any hard and fast rules or to suggest that any posts made in the past were particularly wrong. I've noticed recently that Mica has changed the way she does FTC threads so that a particular FTC has three sections. And I've realized that I've probably been posting in the wrong sections of those FTCs. And being vegan, I don't want any cheese on my pizza; thank you. |
