I currently own an Europa 5 bass and have just agreed to buy an Elan 4 with Europa electronics from a forum member which i'm really excited about. I wonder if anyone else has both an Elan and a Europa in their collection and can comment on what the sound differences are going to be. I know the Elans have maple bodies and necks so it should have a brighter sound than my Europa. I have previously tried a 6 string elan and the bass was very piano like on the open string sounds which I really love. Here is my current Europa: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/3658.html?1170593034 Here is the one I'm buying: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/35750.html?1171671913 For amplification I'll be using F1-x, SF-2 and QSC PLX2042, 2x10 boogie powerhouse and 1x15 powerhouse.cabs Jazzyvee |

Outside of the tonal characteristics of the wood, I believe it will be as you expect. My Elan 6 w/Europa has a deluxe neck and it is just a bit brighter than my mahog, flame koa Spoiler with the same neck dimentions. Each instrument has it's own character and not one in my experience ever sounded bad. I've become a huge fan of the Europa/Distillate circut. Great for changes on the fly at a gig. You will love the neck and how fast you will get around on it. I have an exploiter that is a breeze to move on. It also has the double p pups. You have a great rig, great basses and the wonderful job of sharing them with live audiences around the world. Congrats and continued success to you! |
