Hate to do this, feel like I might be making a huge mistake but family first. Wife is going to graduate school, i'm selling off just about everything to help. I will get another Alembic in 2 years. Here goes: 1982 custom built Distillate bass by Alembic. incredible condition. !!not a single ding!!! Model: DMSB4 Distillate Bass Custom LED's Run the length of the neck Chrome Hardware Side mounted jack for the cable amazing curly (or is it quilt?) maple top, back, headstock cap, and headstock rear. Neck: maple and purpleheart Fingerboard: ebony with mother of pearl ovals Scale 32" medium Width at the nut: 1 & 3/4" Weight: approximately 10 lbs. The history as I understand it, according to this site: the bass was custom ordered and completed for a collector in 1982. It was kept in a case, stored, and brought out to be played once or twice a year until 2009. It was upgraded with new rf shielding, pots, knobs, and led wire, and then sold. It changed hands a few times with minimal playing until it came to me. Upon receiving the bass, I had the frets professionally dressed and a full once over including fretboard treatment (oil), setup, strings (currentlu 40-100, light. I can have it set up for 45-105 if you like) It plays like a dream. It is absolutely killer. here's a couple links to the history with pics: http://alembic.com/club/messages/395/71856.html?1256345749 http://alembic.com/club/messages/395/84528.html?1293805055 and recently, from the owner i received it from, you can see by looking further down on this for sale page. $2,600.00 cash price if buyer picks up in the Washington dc area. willing to ship/ paypal/ buyer pays shipping, insurance, packing and fees. at this price I will recoup what i have in it. these outdoor pics are a bit blown out, too bright (sorry, crappy camera). last is a flash but closer to the real color. pics in links are better. Hi Don, I'd really like to get my asking price for the bass. once again, it's what i have in it and ideally i'd like to recoup my cost, having just acquired the instrument and had the maintenance done. I will be doing a gig in Princeton, new jersey on sunday the 1st so if it were to make things more reasonable for you I can bring the bass and we can meet there. |

Doug, All though I do not want to step on anyones toes here I would like to chime in and say your current asking price is far below what this same Bass was offered to me two years ago on the West Coast. I would have purchased it then but a Series II came along about the same time for the same asking price and the rest is history. I think your current price is OK for what this is,____ not your average Distillate . |

Considering quilted maple front and back lams, purpleheart lams in the neck, chrome hardware, LEDs, and minty condition, I consider $2,600 a very good price for this bass. Put that puppy on eBay, and I am sure someone will have wished they got it here for $2,600. Hey Doug, good luck on your sale. |

Count me in too, Doug. Your Distillate is certainly worth at least what your asking. I purchased my Distillate from Ara, who owned this bass, and the condition of mine was as if it had just came from the Mothership- no kidding. I frankly think that your bass should bring in closer to $2800 or more, based on custom features, woods, and condition. Good luck with your sale! |

Thanks for the input all, my only intent is to get back what I've put into the bass. I consider myself a caretaker, not owner. I don't like eBay, and although I use it, i am hesitant to put the bass up there, as I'd rather keep it in the community. It is also up on talkbass. Cheers Doug |

Hello I will be on tour from may 6th until may 24th, and available on line but unable to ship the bass until I return. The bass will be at home, safely in the case. |

The bass is sold. Not a happy day for me, but a great day for someone else. It's going to a quality caretaker with a few other alembics to keep it company. Next stop, a SC sig in a couple years.... |

Thanks Doug for a very easy and smooth transaction. Really looking forward to playing it this week. P.S. I promise it will be well taken care of here in Texas. :D |
