Thanks Dave. Although I'm a little uncomfortable with the eBay thing, I do have a bid on it.

Your discomfort is understandable. I've purchased a number of pieces of equipment on Ebay and have had few problems; but there does seem to be a recent increase in dishonest activity.

Good morning Dave
I've had good luck on ebay, 2 basses, 1 amp, 1 cabinet. Check the sellers feedback and ask any question you have up front. Good luck.

Hi Sam,
Thanks so much for the info. I struck a deal on an F-1X over the weekend. It "feels good" so far. How much does the F-1X weigh? Now I just need a power amp. Thinking of QSC PLX 1602 (21 lbs.). I have 2 8-ohm Eden cabs (4x10 500 watts, 2x10 250 watts). I usually use just the 4x10 for most gigs. Bridged, the 1602 is 1100 watts at 8-ohms. That's more than enough power - too much? The 1602 is 300 watts at 8-ohms in stereo. My SWR SM400 is 140 watts at 8-ohms in stereo, so can I expect a little more punch because of the doubled wattage?

Thoughts? Anyone??

BTW, I'm so impressed with this forum!! After one of my postings, Chuck from North Carolina actually called me with advice. Very, very helpful and a nice man. He answered my questions before I could ask them. Thanks Chuck (Funky4)!!

Thanks so much for all your help,
Dave

Hi Dave,

what I hear a lot -and I DO wrong with my setup- OVERPOWER your speakers!!! It's much safer to OVERPOWER them than to UNDERPOWER them. There is some 2400 or what QSC around VERY popular with the bro's and sis' over here.
CHeck them.
There is also a QSC "low-budget" series who are actually very nice but weight al lot.

Hi Paul,

"what I hear a lot -and I DO wrong with my setup- OVERPOWER your speakers!!! It's much safer to OVERPOWER them than to UNDERPOWER them. "

Maybe because it's Monday, but I'm a little confused with the above two statements. I think you mean I should overpower the speakers (reasonably, of course)? So, your second statement is the correct statement? Overpowering speakers is safer than underpowering speakers, right?

Anyone?

The PLX 1602 bridged would push 1100 watts into my 4x10 (500-watt cab). But in stereo, the PLX 1602 would push only 300 watts into the 4x10. Is 300 watts too little for the 4x10 500-watt cab? For the 2x10 250-watt cab (which I don't use all that often anymore), 300 watts is fine, right?

If I went with the PLX 2402, it has 425 a side at 8 ohms, but 1500 watts bridged. Should I be hesitant about pushing 425 watts into a 250-watt cab, and/or pushing 1500 watts bridged into a 500-watt cab?

PLX 1602
bridged at 8 ohms - 1100 watts
stereo at 8 ohms - 300 watts

PLX 2402
bridged at 8 ohms - 1500 watts
stereo at 8 ohms - 425 watts

My Eden cabs are both 8 ohms:
4x10T 500-watt
2x10T 250-watt

The 2402 is $170 more than the 1602

Guys, I need some advice here,

Thanks so much,
Dave

Yep Dave.
what I meant to say was that MY rig is UNDERPOWERED and that is no good. It will change eventually the following years when I can set aside the money. (I play Bi-amp out of the F1-X.)
Look here:
http://alembic.com/club/messages/394/6134.html?1069586402

IN the future I would like to power the 4x10 -who is 800W by 8ohms- with the bridged Dynacord L-1000 and ad a 1 unit height Poweramp (Peavey??) of 500 W bridged to drive the 15" of 300W by 8 ohms.

Indeed: it is better to use an amp that overpowers you speakers slightly indeed.

Dave,

Using an amplifier that has a higher power rating than your speakers is preferable for a couple of reasons. First, and most importantly, a higher power rating is far less likely to be driven into clipping which can and will damage your speakers.
Second, more power gives you more headroom. You can get the speakers moving efficiently without having to turn it up to ear shattering levels, so at low volumes your sound will still be full and rich.

Obviously using an amplifier that has a higher power rating than your speakers is something that should be done within reason. How much is too much? I'll have to leave that to many others here that are far more qualified than I. My bass rig has 1000 watts bridged into 8 ohm speakers rated at 400 watts. I use an F1X for a pre-amp and it sounds great at any volume. I'm past the point of turning it up to anywhere near dangerous for the speakers....

Hope this helps a little, I'm sure you'll get many more responses soon.
