What are the odds of two consecutive SN'd basses being sold on eBay through two different sellers at the same time?!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOBIAS-BASIC-6-PRE-GIBSON-1988-No-912-M-I-N-T-/141245908318?pt=Guitar&hash=item20e2e9855e

Weird! I will sell a Tobias Signature soon, but I had no idea people wanted $5K for them these days:

Mine is SN 635 (The one on eBay is 'The Last of the Last, not an early one), so around the 450th Tobias made, and much rarer than the one on eBay currently, as it has an omega cut bottom. Not many of those puppies made. I do not like the one on eBay much, as I am not fond of lacewood, nor six string basses. Mine is a five and made from a very special plank of African Zebra wood that has aboujt the same visual quality of a tiger eye gem stone. When you rotate it in the light, it shows waves like the gem stone does. Signatures are the top of the Tobias Pre-Gibson line, and post-Gibson, I believe. Mine has a $600 1/2" Calzone flight case, so I am thinking mine is worth more than the one currently on eBay. You very see Signatures being sold, and this guy;s bass maybe a Classic verses a Signature, actually. Anyway, I was not going to ask $5K for mine, and mine was sent to Alembic by Steve Wood to have his custom S II necks fashioned after it, as it is agreed by both him and I that it is the best playing five-string bass we have ever played. My 1980 ebony S II is currently in the factory having a 'Steve Wood' ebony, purple heart, flame maple five string neck put on it, so this Tobias is now redundant to me, and I would like to see it go to a good home. The Tobias' neck dimensions are kept on file at Alembic, in case anyone else wants a great playing asymmetrical neck on their custom order. I am seriously in no hurry to sell it, so . . .

BTW - I had no intension of asking $5,000 for my Tobias . . . I think that is a touch over-priced.

Did Search, filled the box with links and was typing and lost it all. Nice. Well, less is more.

Some interesting reading, if nothing else.

Steve Wood talking about the bass when he owned it:

Crap, lost the page of links again. I give up. Got two doctor's calls while I was doing this, so mind was out the window. Anyway, I am assuming you are looking for a 'collector's bass,' which I am not interested in, but do have a box in my extensive collection in my huge bass stuff pile (See this link for example):

Lots of stuff from that page will be going up for sale this summer. I hate parting with my old gear as I love it so dearly ands it kinds of defines pieces of my life I want to keep forever - But my future is further down the bunny hole, so smaller and smaller places to live, and more and more treasures sold off for lack of room and ability to care for, or even the ability to move some of them around the room. No more loading the VW buses and U-Haul trucks to go someplace fun and play - They they even give you money to do it - Idiots! We'd all do it for free, we love it so much! Pack up and drive 182 miles to play a biker bar in Roslyn, WA and try to get lunch free for eating their pound and a half burger in one sitting, then dope up and play all night and play music for some of the best people I have played for on the planet. If a biker band love the band, there is nothing the band cannot do, have access to the night - Except getting the pigs mixed up with the hogs - Tread lightly there, my friend. Have I gone nutz? Maybe, but it was such fun, screw everything else. My tab was always over the $200 I had coming for the gig - He who owns the PA gets two shares of the pay! These kind of gigs were never pay the rent gigs, but vacation gigs for the band and party goers to just have fun and go nutz!!! God I miss those daze . . .

Threw my cigarettes down and it clipped the keyboard and tried to rob me of the entire post again - Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!! Anyway, not selling this bass as a collector's item, but a player's bass, regardlerss of the great condition it is in. I guess someone could put all the original parts backm on, like take the solid chunk of brass I had a machinist make to made the gold ABS bridge mill out the exact height the Tobias chrome plated one, with out drilling any new holes in the bass. Far superior to the originals, and same with the knobs, etc. And I did order a blank Alembic five-string adjustable nut to replace the bone one Tobias used, but the original is still in the box and can be put back I guess. I just would not want to sell the bass to someone who wanted to do it, as this bass should be seriously gigged with. Price? Minimum of $3,500, I suppose to Alembic Club members that I am biased to. I will popst more pictures of newer rack filled with Eden, Alembic, and other goodies later, I am sure. I have not decided on the simple, but earth shaking smallish rig I will keep to piddle around on the last two basses I keep, my old ebony bass Mica is working on, and my 69 Les Paul that I am overly obsessed with for sentimental reasons. Actually, sentimental plays a huge part in keeping the old ebony, too.

Pain pills are working well today, so that is probably why I am in such a yakky mood.
