For Sale: ’95 Elan 5 string. The body is 5A quilt maple on maple, the neck has an ebony fingerboard on maple w/walnut veneers and is 34” scale. The controls are vol, pan and filter with q-switch and the pickups are an AXY56 at the neck and a Fatboy at the bridge. It has Schaller strap locks and tuners. The bass was purchased used in 2003 and sent back to Alembic for overhaul. At that time it was refinished in Wineburst, the brass hardware was cleaned up and restored, the bronze Alembic logo and script were upgraded with 24k gold versions, the plastic truss rod cover and back plate were upgraded with brass versions, the bridge pickup was replaced and I got a new case. Since then, I’ve added FretFX side markers and replaced the bridge pickup with a Fatboy. Hardshell case w/keys and Moodys strap included. $3100.00 More pictures and a bit of back story here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/5839.html?1153967479

Very nice bass and I love the wineburst! One gets a lot better deal (and an extra string) here than from the guy trying to sell a 4-string Elan on Craiglist for $9,000. That one does have Signature electronics and Alembic LEDs but for $5,900 more than what you're asking for yours you gotta expect something.

Have always loved this bass. Good luck with the sale, Reid! Making me wish I had an extra $3100 laying around...

Thanks Toby, I love this bass too, but it's time to move it on.

Wookie, the Fatboy is the same size as an AXY, so no routing was done, it popped right in.

That does seem to be an amazing Elan. I'm glad you like this one, too. It's been a great bass.

My Elan Five is similar with Flame Maple over Ash with the pinstripe laminates. With the FaBoys (and their different sonic signature as they're 'wide aperture' vs. my P/J setup) this thing would cut through any band situation, while sounding like a very hi-fi MusicMan with a BAD attitude.

Great price, and will make somebody one hell of a five-string. You get a lot of 'bark' with all 'white' woods and the ebony board, a Fender-ish recipe.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Joey, your assessment of this bass’s tone palette is spot-on. It will get you a lot of great sounds all slathered in loads of naked aggression.

It looks so calm and peaceful, just laying there in its case.

I have a certain weakness for Elan basses and this is another superb example.

I wish you all the best with the sale.

Thank you for the best wishes, JV. That purple Elan of yours is certainly a looker.

The standard Alembic tag lines apply here: "Pictures don't do it justice," and "It sounds every bit as good as it looks."
