Hi there in the States,
a very rare Alembic Series II 12-String and a wonderfull Essence 5-String are on the Bunny Bass site now! Bunny Bass shows very nice photos of the instruments. They come out of my collection and they are in great condition.
I introduced the 12-string some month ago at the Alembic Club. Hope, that they get nice new homes!
Bass regards from Hamburg

Oh man! Are this basses in the States now? I'm very interested in the Essence (read: I want it!) but I'm in Belgium so if it has to be shipped from the States back to Europe...
Shipping is nothing but the import taxes (21%) would make the price too high for my current budget. If somebody has a solution for this, please let me know!

Edit: does the Essence have a tight B=string? Damned, I want a 5-string! I have a Spoiler 4 but the fact that I can not gig with it (I need 5-strings for the band I'm currently in) hurts so much... :-)

Hi guineapig,
the 12-String is a guitar. The Essence is already shipped to the States, I´m very sorry!
But I own a Persuader 5-String & a Spoiler 5-String too. Both in great condition.
I would sell the Spoiler, it has a birdseye maple top.
If you are interested, let me know.
Best Regards

I'm very interested... my spoiler 4 is the best instrument I've ever played... (I must admit that it's the only alembic I've ever played, you don't see them much in Belgian shops) I really love the range of tones it has! I suppose yours is in good condition? Shall I mail you?

Hallo Tom,

And to all the other members: if only you guys knew what Paul is telling about you! Tsss... :-)

Hi Dave,
you are absolutely right, the 12-string is outstanding.
I produced many records over the years, where Germany´s top guitar players used this 12-string. They all said, that they never played an instrument like this. It sounds from wonderfull clear to complete spacy, you`ll get any sound, you`re looking for. A fantastic instrument, where the people at Alembic even topped themselves!:-)))
The Essence is a great instrument too, the Bocate top is super and it plays wonderfull. But I own in between two more Alembics, a Spoiler 5-string and a Persuader 5-string.
And so, because I am a bassplayer, I gave these instruments to Jimmy at Bunny Bass.
For the money I get for them, I would love purchase a 5-string Mark King or something like that.

Bass regards to you & all the members of the Alembic Club from Hamburg

Hah! Closer inspection shows that twelve-string is really an eleven-string :-)! Does this mean an 8.3% discount?

I don't pretend to be the expert, but the asking price seems a little steep to me, especially as this apparently hasn't had the electronics upgraded (add another $1500) and doesn't even come with an Alembic power supply, but rather with a home made job wired for european 240. The guitar looks very cool, but at 11 pounds that's a lot of weight. Of course at about half the asking price .....??????

... if you order the 12-string today, the price is $ 15700.-. The guitar is in a very good condition.
So, I think the price is fair....

Uli:

I'm in no way disparaging this guitar or commenting on its intrinsic value. . If anything, I've had to wipe the drool off my keyboard after staring at the pics. I'd love to pick up an Alembic 12 string. I'm just going by what Alembic guitars bring on the open market, not based on full replacement cost. For example my Electrum would cost about $5500-6000 if you ordered it today. I bought it last year for $1200 and $1200-1500 seems about what they bring on the used market. And I didn't then have to bring it to Alembic for an upgrade. Certainly it absolutely kicks ass on anything else out there I could get for $1200. But that won't result in my being able to sell it for $3000 if I wanted to. (Even though I believe it would match up favorably with any $3000 guitar out there too). Factoring in the upgrade and a power supply, the 12 string would cost the buyer at least $8000. I realy don't think it would bring nearly that much on ebay. Of course if the seller (it's a consignment sale) wants to wait for just the right person to come along, they might get $6000 for it, especially if the buyer doesn't know that it needs a $1500 electronics upgrade or a new power supply. However, I would think that someone knowledgeable enough to appreciate this guitar for what it is would probably also be hip to the upgrade and power supply. I guess the seller could hope for a trust fund baby with an impulse. But the wait could be quite long.

Uli:

I just realized you're the seller. A fine new home I could certainly supply for this amazing axe. Unfortunately I don't have the fine old bank account to match. LOL Good luck.
