Hey, gang.

Guess I'm gonna have to part with my Cocobolo Excel. Stuff happens. As-New condition, EXTREMELY MINOR button mark on the back, must be held sidways under a light to see it. Cocobolo top, swamp ash body, plays like buttah and sounds like thunder. G&G case, all paperwork, tool pack and has brand new 45-125 DR Hi-Beams.$2000 shipped, to continental U.S. location. Wonderful Bass without having to sell the farm to get it! Questions at 5stringho@sbcglobal.net.
Thanxxxxx, Mike

Pics can be seen in Showcase section, "Cocobolo Excel" If interested, I could probably arrange to get some new pics made. Thanks again.

John,
E-Mail me if you're interested. I've never dealt with International money transactions (and heard horror stories!) or Shipped overseas, but it could be in the realm of possibilities to an established Alembecian. Let me know! Everybody else, the Bass will be on display @ Queen City Guitars (formerly Midwest Music) in Cincinnati, Ohio, starting Sat. Feb 2. Phone # (513) 631-8318. Thanks for checking her out!
Have Fun, Mike, tho

nice offer, Mike... if you both are getting serious about an overseas transaction, my 2c may be helpful...

when I bought "the Seismic bass" last year from verrry nice forum member Tim, the whole trade took a few months. It took my cheque three weeks to clear on his account, and it took Tim awful lot of time and money to prepare all the shipping paperwork. At one point, he said "hey I've never done this before, and I am getting different information on required docs every time I ask someone, I just don't know how to proceed... HELP !"

I always wanted to visit the US, I faced a two week vacation period, so I bought me a ticket to Dallas-Fort Worth and got the bass in person. That may not be suitable for everybody or every aquisition...

Perhaps QCG has dealt overseas before, so you could ask them to ship the bass for you, Mike. You should take into account that the whole procedure of paying and shipping takes the time...

Anyway, good luck to all !

Thank You, Christian! Your 2 Cents worth is appreciated a Dollar!
We'll see how things work out. I bet Rusty at QCG has done it, so I will check with him!
Thanks again for your info and suggestions.
Have fun, Mike, tho =]

Hi Mike,

when I stated "I wish that I lived in the US" I should have also stated "I wish I hadnt spent most of my Alembic no2 budget on the leaky roof on my house!" We havent had a dry day here in the west coast of Scotland since december - bummer:-(

I very much appreciate the willingness on your part to ship to the UK - what a great guy!

I would love to buy your gorgeous Excel but it would appear that fate has, AGAIN, conspired against me:-(

John, I definately feel your pain. Without going into it, selling my Excel was NOT in the master plan, neither is selling my Warrior, Ibanez 6-string, 1979 Les Paul Custom Silverburst, and everything else thats gonna go. Oh, well, doo-doo happens!
Hope all, including the weather, improves for you!
Have fun, Mike, tho :[

It is always cheaper, faster and safer (and more fun!) to book a cheap flight and motel and fly from Europe to US to collect a bass and walk it back through customs undeclared than to ship it and have to pay a total of over 30% duties on it. That's my 2c!! Not that I would actively advise or myself indulge in any such smuggling!

I think that is a fantastic idea - Im going to put that on my list of things to do before I die!

Life is too short "play it safe" all the time (one of my annoying personal characteristics!)

Mike, after reading your sacrifice I feel YOUR pain! Total wipeout on your part losing that collection:-(

well, I'd be very careful...

actually, when I paid G-Guitars for the John-Judge-doubleneck, I did not want them to ship the instrument, but had a friend in the states pick up the bass and bring it to Europe. He wanted to visit his relatives in Switzerland anyway. I wanted to pick up the bass in Switzerland and import it to Germany, legally declared at the border.

When my friend arrived at Zurich Airport, he thought he didn't need to declare the large case at the customs, because the bass is just in transit. Murphy's law came into play, a customs officer hooked up on the large case, confiscated it and locked it away. My friend rang, told me about the mishap, and I drove to Zurich to get the bass out of "prison". Custom's officers are very nice persons at Zurich Airport, they completely understood about this honest mistake, but I had to pay the Swiss import tax and a heavy fine anyway... another $2,000 gone down the drain :-( D'oh !

so, better prepare your wallet if you try to forget to declare your purchase at customs :-)

ahem, sorry for the hijack, Mike :-)

Hey Christian,
Wow. That's a pretty hefty price to pay for a 'DOH!

Anyhoo, the bass is now on display @ Queen City Guitars in Cincinnati. (513)631-8318. Ask for Rusty Thompson. But, if anyone is interested, still feel free to contact me.

Thanxxxxx, Mike
