Wanting to find my 1st Alembic. A series 1 or 2 would be fine...fine indeed. Or better still a Stanley Clarke sig or a Mark King...(Im not fussy heh heh) any help suggestions or directions very very welcome. you just don`t see them here in NewZealand(maybe the cheap ones which Im not interested in.) Ben, Welcome aboard- I just returned to the US after a 4 year stint in Hamilton. I purchased my Alembic from somebody here in the forum and had it shipped to NZ. There are a few Alembic's floating around and I even saw 1 or 2 go on TradeMe while I was there. Give David Burgess a call over at Bass People in Sydney if you can't find anything used- Toby |

Ben, I just posted to another of your threads (still listening to your tunes, they are really nice!). Just for point of reference, there are no "cheap" Alembics; they are all handmade, and all by the same artisans in the same small shop in Santa Rosa. The electronics in all of them are mil spec. The pickups in an Epic are the same type as in a Signature. The same carvers shape all of them. There are many members here who love their Orions and Excels as much as their Series basses. Alembic doesn't do "cheap". |

Ben, I'm the original owner of Hasadari's Mark King. It's a King standard - medium scale, mahogany body, cocobolo top, signature electronics. It's a very nice bass. It's heavy, with the standard point body & cocobolo top, but balances well & was very easy to play with the 32 inch scale. I've never played a Series bass before, so I couldn't compare & contrast it. The only thing I would have preferred on it & my current SC deluxe is to have the neck pick up located flush up against the truss rod cover. All in all, it's a great bass & I wish I still had it. Also, Bob is a good guy to deal with. Good luck to you! |

about the pickup position, when slapping did you find it hard to pop up, as the neck pickup is positioned right where you`d normally have your first finger? did you just adjust your hand position and play infront or in between the pick ups? |

I'm pretty sure there is an Alembic owner who has stopped by the club who lives down in Napier and another down around Nelson. My Alembic left Hamilton when I moved back to the US. There used to be an Alembic dealer in Auckland, so I'm sure there are a few Alembics bumping around the country. I saw 2 or 3 of them traded on TradeMe during the 4 year period I lived there. |
