Do you think the body is really maple... or just the top? No view of the back, but I bet it's mahogany. I would like to hear a maple bodied Alembic however. I bet they have more midrange/punch. The Essence line usually has a maple body doesn't it? |

I don't know, seems like you would see the maple cap on the body contours. This may be maple throughout. |

Strange that the pics from the 2005 auction are being used now. Maybe I'm wrong, but the pic of the bass standing up in its case with the house in the background is exactly what I remember seeing three years ago. |

Yes, this is the bass I won on ebay and paid for with US Postal Service Money Orders. The Bass was never delivered to me. The money orders were cashed. Ebay found in my favor (which is rare. I got about $200 of my funds back). I can't say more at this time. If you want more information, please email me. I was going to alert everyone before the listing went on much further (and especially before it expired>) ( I have had email contact with some of you who alerted me the bass was back on eBay. Yes, they are the same pics. I am glad we have the archives. This is a wonderful club. Thanks. God Bless! |

I just dropped the dime on the seller, using the thread as evidence against them. The bass is over $2,500 at the time of writing, and I was thinking about making what would have been a big mistake until I read the latest postings this morning. I hope none of you mind (especially 57basstra) that ebay may use this forum as evidence against the goniff who is trying to bait unsuspecting consumers with a beauty of a bass. Cheers, John |

John, may as well disclose this now. I have local law enforcement working with Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (possibly FBI and US Postal Service Inspectors) working on this. We have had little luck getting much help from eBay. (at least what I have been told so far.) Yes these are the same pics used them. Same seller? I don't know. Does the bass actually exist? Possibly. Would you mind telling me who - or what branch - of eBay you turned this over to. eBay really drags its feet and since we are nearing the weekend and the listing is closing time is certainly of the essence. |

If anyone here does buy this bass you need to pick it up in person. ...and I would make certain I was in a very public place with some very good friends along...... (Message edited by 57basstra on November 06, 2008) |

John. I do not expect to every recover damages. I just don't want someone else -- especially a member of this club -- to go through what I have had to endure. I had put this behind me (with the help of my Alembics I do own) but here is the bass being sold again so blatantly. Several Alembic club members spotted the same pics being used. Even if this seller claims he did not know about the bass being sold three years ago, how did he (or she) wind up with the same pics used three years ago? Sorry, I get to ranting and I have tried to get past this. I would not mind if my Alembic brothers (and sisters) let eBay know of our concern that such a situation can occur. I call for them to suspend that listing investigate the matter and let the chips fall where they may. I have the documentation to back up my claims. I have emailed the seller to ask him (or her) where the pics in the listing came from and have had no response. At this point I just want to let as many people as possible know about the potential problems associated with this bass and these pics. Thanks everyone! |

David, I do not know if you already did this, but can you ask the seller questions about the origin and the authenticity of the bass directly on the auction page so that bidders would see the seller's response or perhaps your cautionary words on bidding on the bass? Cheers, John |

John: My experience is that you can "ask seller a question" by clicking on the link. The question then gets to the seller by email. It's up to the seller, at that point, whether they want to post the questions & answers on the auction page. If you know of a way for a potential buyer to post questions on the auction page, please tell me how. Bill, tgo |

I saw an auction for a '64 jtm marshall ...all the info and pictures were lifted from a recently ended '65 jtm auction. Since ebay has made bidders names anonymous I couldn't warn these folks directly...and ebay was definitely dragging it's heels despite multiple listing violation reports. So I waited for the auction to end and at that point I could click on the winners name to contact them and let them know they were about to throw thousands of dollars away. It might be a good idea in this case also...since it seems this seller isn't being up front with the goods. |

Bill, you are correct. The seller is the only one who can post a q&a in the auction listing. I am in Ontario, where the bass is listed. I asked the seller if they were the person who purchased the bass on ebay in 2005. The seller advises they purchased the bass on ebay but did not confirm the year. The seller also advised a pick up could be arranged. While 90% of the people on earth are honest, you must be careful buying an expensive item on an unregulated forum such as ebay. Yes ebay is unregulated. On the one hand they talk about fun; on the other, this is a contract...There is no contract and it is not fun when someone doesn't follow the "community" rules. ebay can be disappointing and costly if you do not investigate your seller. This guy has no feedback. You are however fully protected via paypal, as long as you claim within 45 days. The seller could drag it out beyond 45 days and you would have have no recourse. Dave, did you buy the bass from Canada? Maybe the seller bought it through a second chance offer and the original seller took both payments. I don't entirely understand what happened, but I have often used the pictures of my ebay purchases to resell the item. When I first saw the same pics from 2005, my first thought was what kind of shape is it in today, 3 years later. How can you be sure the seller is untrustworthy and responsible for the scam? Colin |

Bass I paid for and did not receive was in Canada also. If the seller is legitimate then he or she should not mind at all responding to the questions he or she is getting and letting us all know whom he or she bought the bass from, when it was bought, and even possibly where that seller is located. Also, how did this seller get these old pics? They are the same. If this seller is legit it would help all concerned for him or her to respond to questions. I am not saying this seller is not legit. I am saying this is the same bass I paid for and did not receive and these are the same pics on that listing three years ago. How did all of this happen? This seller could help us (and Law Enforcement) out with these questions. I have copies of my cashed US Postal Service money orders with signatures. (Obtained from Postal Service). My seller disappeared from eBay about the time I finally had this documentation. (Notice how the recent pics do not show the red/orange case that was so distinct in the earlier shots even though that is the same case with this listing. That would call more attention to the listing) IF the seller or sellers are legitimate they will not mind stepping forward and answering some questions since I am raising this issue. This issue was actually raised by other concerned Alembic Club members before I came forward with my first response on this thread. |

I hope someone - other than myself - would invite the seller of this bass to view this thread and respond to the issues raised. It would be helpful if the responses from the seller could come before this listing expires. So far I have had no luck in having the seller respond to me. I have been cordial. Thank you all. The information and input here has been - and is being - very helpful. |

Well, it must be the same seller, or the present seller must have obtained it from the person you were dealing with in 2005. The pictures are an indication the present seller was at least aware of the former ebay auciton, if not the actual seller at that time. I did provide a link to the seller to inform them the bass was being discussed on this forum. I did and have not challenged them on any of this. The seller's email address is mosenator@hotmail.com. |

The auction was cancelled. Click the link above and you'll see that "The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.". Can ebay or any law enforcement office still chase them down if they are now trying to escape unscathed? |
