I've been fantasizing about an 8-string Alembic myself. Thinking of starting a "dreaming... for now" thread. I've owned an 8-string Tune and two 8-string Rickenbackers (one of which I still own), but I've always dreamed of having an 8-string Alembic. Recently I've become interested in the Waterstone 8-string like this one at Bass NW (though the finish on this one isn't for me). Best of luck with your search! |

Not applesauce color? By the way, I started a Tom Petersson Alembic 8-string thread in the Showcase section (in case your GAS needed feeding!) |

I bought a stiletto also. It is rather well made and by rights should come close to the performance of an alembic, but I did not like the sound of the pickups . There are retro fit pickups that will improve the sound. with that up grade it would be a formidable instrument. But it does not come close to the balanced K, alembic made for me. If you can afford it you will not regret a custom build. |

Very beautiful new 8string in Japanese market. But very expensive too. 1110000yen. The bass seems to has smileQ + treble/bass EQ. Here is the link. Another used in Japan. 378000yen. here is the link. (Message edited by to 81 0190 on December 17, 2010) |

The Stiletto comes stock with an EMG B-64 3 band preamp and their high impedance HZ PUPs. For a little over $350 I am upgrading to a BQS preamp and low impedance single coil PUPs (a 40 JCS in the neck and a 40 J in the bridge). They haven't been delivered yet, but I'm expecting good things. The HZs are probably what most players are looking for tonewise, but I HOPE the new PUPS will get me somewhere in the neighborhood of an Alembic. The bass plays great... it has a nice tight "B". |
