My guitar teacher from high school recently posted this photo of him and his Alembic back in the days. Here's part of his post that gives a little backstory: My housemate Dennis Harrington was a, I think, classmate at Evergreen of Steven Smith, who went on to work at the Alembic studio. So when we visited, we went in back and I got this one which they said was kind of a test bench for stuff. It's not really a finished thing. It's got funky electronics, but all the wood and brass are luuvely. SN 7205 ". He mentioned it's only been played sparingly at home, no strap locks were ever installed.I'll ask him if he wants to take some detailed pics in the (hopefully near) future . I don't think I've seen this one before,

My nephew has a picture of Garcia playing a peanut, but it has a Les Paul neck on it. I will try to get a shot of it when I see him. Pete |

Wait a minute! You're Elwoodblue (I live in Chicago now and just drove over that drawbridge, Elwood)? I just joined this club today and in my introduction I told this story and pointed people to this picture. Now, cruising for other peanut info, I see this. Chronsynclastic infindibulum! Anyway, nice to run into you here. I don't know if you part of this little adventure, but the PA head in the picture was stolen out of NWS and some students found it in a really closeby pawnshop. I wonder what this guitar is worth now? Who would know about a unique piece like this? |

Hi Doug, Glad you found your way here . That's funny about THE drawbridge . I didn't know or don't remember about the PA's adventures. Let's see if Bill (The Guitar One) can chime in on the value. He has a few early Alembic guitars and seems to stay current on collector values. I don't know if there are any traces of records in the file cabinet ,but a serial number/history request might bring some provenance that would help in figuring out it's value. Those requests take a while since it's not in the normal agenda but they can be fruitful. I'd love to have another peanut guitar someday, mostly sentimental reasons but the funky mojo factors in bigtime too. You could email Mica - http://alembic.com/cgi-bin/alembic-club/board-contact.cgi - and see if there's any very early pictures or maybe even comments by her mom or dad about your guitar. I'm sure you'll have a warm welcome here once the thread gets a little notice....this has got to be the friendliest place on the interweb. Drive safe, play healthy!! Kris |
