ahum ... (me again) a - I didn't see the Basclef either unless pointed out. Nice indeed. b - Rats ...Brother Adriaan!! Now I'am wexposed as a belgian and "soft 'g'"talker. c - to mess-up a little bit more the fish symbol. Here in Belgium there is a brand of fishing gear ARCA that has the same symbol (no bas-clef of course) and that's something you see a LOT too on the bumpers of cars. If'n I ever get access to a scanner, I'll copy a page of the May/June 1991 issue of "Bass Player," which boasts a brief profile of Mr. Van Huik and two of his gorgeaous Alembics (albeit in a black-and-white shot roughly the size of a postage stamp). |

Edwin, That new one is a beauty. I think Alembic can expect to start seeing orders coming in for that body style, as well as the 3/4 Balance Point. I like your idea on the different colors for side LEDs. Actually, I'm just jealous that I didn't think of it when I ordered mine 4 years ago. Peace, James |

I had the pleasure of holding this bass and must admit, it is worth every cent. Just a question Ed, is or was Sam using his own or your toiletpaper as screensaver? Imagine, your own smell-o-rama screensaver. Talk to you soon, still thinking if you know what I mean. Manfred |

Manfred, The toilet paper was Edwin's idea. I'm using the photo of his bass. Maybe the smell-o-rama will come in handy with the next Zebrawood custom. Sam |

Edwin, Saw your bass when I picked mine up at the factory, and thought it looked really cool then. (it didn't have the electronics or hardware in yet) Congrats on the featured custom. Hmmm...maybe a 34" scale in the EVH III for my next... Ken (TEO) |

Edwin, I really like the shape, the wood is beautiful, and even though I tend to get ever-so-slightly nervous when I see a fish in this particular shape, it's a great story and a beautiful inlay - love the shell, and the bass clef. Now then, according to a very well-informed source, the custom bass-boost controls give you up to 15 dB increase! (and they weren't easy to build). Are these standard shelving-type controls, and if so at what frequency do they start? I have a hard time imagining adding that much bass, and suspect you might be reducing it elsewhere in the chain - you can't cut it with the low pass filters in the bass, but maybe in an SF-2 or a preamp? Could you say a little more about how you are shaping the frequency response? -Bob |
