Gorgeous!
The silver around the inlays is a great touch.
It really sets off those carefully chosen ovals.
I'd love to see that more often.

Wow! super cool, and I agree with elwood that the silver around the inlays is sweet!

You're a lucky fellow to open this case routinely.

Thanks very much!
I love the silver too and thought all Alembics had it when I first saw this bass 33 years ago.
Here's a link to what it looked like with 33 yrs of funky buildup when I finally took ownership.

Where is the custom option "Oval inlay with silver bezels" on Custom Quote ?
It's so cute for new custom option !

I love the birdseye Zebrawood just like this !
Mica, How about availability is the wood now ?

I ask about head logo.
Your bass has "Surface mounted logo with shell", isn't it ???
I have never seen it 70's era !
Please up load the close up logo.

Hi Eiji,

It is a surface mount logo that is cut rather than cast. I wish it had the shell bacround that it looks like but it is instead that very seventies turned metal tape that the first owner slipped behind the logo.
Here's another picture but it is still not all that clear (I'll take another photo)

head

Another thing I've noticed is that my build date is clearly 12/30/75 but the bass is a "76".
I assume this is a "76" yr model built in 75?
In the new serial number listing site I see that there are a lot of missing birth dates for the 74 through 76 guitars but this bass appears to be the only one that has a birth certificate that contraditcts the year in the serial number.
Any input on that Mica?

Eiji,

I found another image of the headstock from before I took it to my luthier.

head2

I like your suggestion of the shell so much that I may ask my luthier to give me a quote on that!

METAL SHEET !

Hi Kenn, Thank you for the picture.
"Surface or inlaid logo with shell" is popular custom option now (standard option for Series 2).
logo with shell

Your bass suggests easy to change the background colour of the logo.
Flat and shaved shell sheet would fit.

It is very seventies with the reflective tape.
I agree that abalone or MOP would look nice.
Some shell in the cloud and nothing where the tape is would be nice too.

The tape takes away from the design a bit IMO.
As long as she plays well is most important.

cheers

looking back at this thread... I've been playing the bass too much to do the logo back round inlay yet. Here's a link to a gig contemporary with the thread. The band is no longer but Youtube is...

Thanks!
Edwin , here's a shot of my Starfire...
don't shoot me for the alterations. I bought it used when I was 14 or so and had access to power tools...
The shadow of the P pickup was an experiment that lasted a couple hours. I had a fretless P bass that I bought new in 1970 and while I hated the Fender neck compared to the Guild, I did like that P sound.
Well That "P" didn't sound the same on the Guild..... The Bridge pick up was a result of walking into Medley Music and ordering a "Guild bass pick up"... like I said I was a kid then.(you really have to work it to get a balance, those pickups are totally mismatched) Badass was brand new to the bridge biz then and since the saddles had mostly split by then I got one of them too. The bass was originally red and had ebony rails on both sides of the strings.
Truly wish I had never messed with it but if I hadn't it might have been sold at some point.
As it is I destroyed its vintage value but that's what kept it in my collection.

I will say that that newer verion of the Guild Bass pickup at the bridge does have a great sound!

Ah, that's my kind of Starfire! I have a '67 that I got in great condition and is now far from stock.

I'm glad that humbucker worked out well for you. I had a '73 Starfire that had the original humbuckers and I never could get that a great a tone out of them compared to the original Hagstrom single coils (which it looks like you have in the neck position) and the Dark Star pickups (which mine has because it started life as a SF I).

According to the website below, yours is probably a '66.

66!? Wow it sure seemed older at the time I bought it in 69. I guess at 14yrs old it was relatively old to me....

Dave if you liked that guitar player here's some more of him... his name is Ron Burns

Well yes, that was mighty nice too! After the song was through I had to go back and listen to that intro again. Please tell Ron I liked it.
