I just wanted to show the photo of my Distillate and my rig that is nearly complete. I have to get my Lexicon serviced because it's really noisy and I am looking a really good compressor. If anyone has any suggestions for a compressor please let me know. By the way, I just got Stanley's new CD "The Stanley Clarke Band"...
It is marvelous!

Hey Pauldo!
I can tell you what is powering the Bag Ends. I have 2 QSC 2450's (one for 10's and one for the 18's). And reading the manual on the 2450, it looks like 500 watts per channel@8ohms, but I'm not absolutely certain. I'm using a F1-X for the 10's and I just switched my other F1-X and put my superfilter in it's place for the bottom/18's because for me it seems as though I get more low end out of the superfilter than the F1-X, But I'm still on the fence. For effects I'm using the Lexicon MPX1. Once I find 2 compressors I will have every thing rig-wise. Good to hear from you Pauldo, I hope I can make the next gatheringand meet you!

Hey Keith,
When you were asleep, I snuck in your house and checked out your rig, because it's legendary, so I had to copy it! (Tee Hee!). Your upper right 2x10" looks different, no AX (red) speaker. Don't worry, I won't tell anybody I copied your hook up! Do you have any suggestions for a compressor?

Charles,
You found me out I only have one tweeter. I have found that when I have more than one I always end up turning all but one off. Given this I figured I might as get one of each and not have to bother with adding an on/off switch to the second cabinet.

I don't really use compression that much. I let the ELF integrator handle that stuff. When I do use compression I use the built in compressor on my Navigator.

I have heard of the ELF, what is its function?
Does it have the capability to dial in thunderous lows? (which is what I'm looking for because I have ample highs)

The ELF is a circuit that RJW created that combines with certain BE cabinets, which are sealed instead of vented. It extends the lows well beyond what the cabinet would normally be able to reproduce. I've never used one, but I've heard that it's a pretty phenomenal way to go as far as getting really thunderous lows out of a modest amount of cabinet. I've always thought about checking an ELF rig out, but have never had the chance.

Your 18s should be able to crank out the big lows pretty easily. You might want to experiment with stacking configurations. I've found that coupling the speakers in various ways can vastly influence how the lows project. Having stereo is very cool, but in my experience, stereo low end can diminish the impact. So, you could consider putting the 18s on top of each other in the middle and then spreading out the high cabinets. You could then put the rack on top of them and get it up to eye level for easy tweaking. Given that lows are pretty much omni directional, you'll probably gain more than you lose.

I've managed to get some seriously thunderous lows out of my F2B (or SMS Classic)/Crest CA9/Euphonic Audio CXL-12 rig. With just two of those cabs, I played an outdoor festival last night and it was pretty damn thunderous. Definitely shook my side of the stage and the sound crew (some of whom mix in the largest rooms, ie. arenas, etc. and festivals out there) were pretty amazed at the amount of oomph. Not bad for two 12s! However, I've been thinking about dragging out the 18s and 15s again.

Sir Edwin,
Thank you for you input and I will indeed try your suggestion in stacking my 18's.

August 14th and 26th are the outdoor gigs in my lineup.
You can check out my rock unit. Go to "Route 15 Band"
Peace!

Chalie; I haven't experienced it, but according to BE's website, the ELF (now called INFRA) system can get you down to 8Hz. Yeah, it seems that would be thunderous!

What a cool Distillate is it! Is it the only Distillate with Series‡Tcircuit? I can't imagine how it sounds with rare wood combo but I can imagine how much you are loving low end. Double 18" BagEnds are crazy!

Toshiaki; Distillate lover also.

I have seen several rigs that look mighty sweet on this site/thread. I plan on Mesa Powerhouse 2x10 and a 1x15.

What amp?
Mesa M6 fathom/carbine does not seem to have separate channel controls. This worries me driving two cabinets with different speaker configs. Plus I don't need the tone controls if I get a F1-X.

QSC 2450 seems to have separate channel controls and several folks are running 2x10 and 1x15 with it.

So my goal rig is:
QSC 2450, F1-X (yes I did just bid on the ebay one that was also posted here), and the Powerhouse 2x10 and 1x15 as separate units.

Just thought I would see if folks thought my approach was sound. I have a 4 string Persuader, just to fill in the blank spots.

Nice rig Charlie!

Hey Jay,
Welcome to the forum (nice axe too!)your approach sounds good to me.I have a Stereo Bass so for me, I use two QSC's &two F-1X's(one 2450 for the 18"'s and their F-X1 and one 2450 for the 2x10's and their F-X1 and my bass is powered by the DS-5R. Recently I saw a Photo of how Stanley runs/uses his F-X1's because I still wasn't getting the bottom that I wanted and I noticed that he simply connected (or jumped) a 1/4" cable from his channel"B" F-X1(treble) to his Channel"B" F-X1 (bass) and that little connection transformed my sound totally! Now the bottom end is tremendous as well as the treble too! I now use 1/2 stack (18" and 2x10")and that is all that I need!

I'm confused. Doesn't that jumping negate the stereo signal flow? Of course, you can't argue with results!

If it does I can't tell except that the bottom end is just AWSOME now! The treble can still project a sonic boom indeed! Each frequency is distinct aurally speaking.

Charlie
I got the info you sent me on your amplifier and speaker specifications and will e-mail you about the alternate way I was telling you of hooking up your rig. I haven't forrgotten, it's just that I've been a little busy because I just joined a new band. But I think you'll find this way will give a tremendous sound and flexibility as well.

Well, I compared the hook ups and I'm not sure why but when I jump the Two F-X1's (DSM treble to FX-1 #1; DSM Bass to F-X1#2 then, channel two of #1 F-X1 to Channel two of F-X1 #2 the sound is significantly better in that there is definitely more bottom end. Maybe Mica can answer as to why this is so. The treble seems to have a little more presence as well but again, the bass/bottom end significantly improves!

Charles,
The more I think about it and the more I play my Distillate the more I like the idea of a Series Bass with a Distillate body. Maybe Series 1 with a master volume. Do you know of any other Series / Distillates?
This is a sweet looking ax!

Hey Pete, Thank you for the compliment! I really don't know if there are anymore series Distillates out there, but if there are I hope that the caretakers post the photos of them here!! I lucked into my Distillate...I guess it was the right time and place. My wife got it for me for Christmas 7 yrs ago @ Bass Northwest. It was everything that I wanted in an Alembic which was short scale & series. I love the way it hangs around my neck which is (IMHO) perfectly balanced! (I think that you probably agree!!) Anyway, I have scaled back my rig dramatically though. With some custom made speakers cabinets I designed some 9-10 years ago but I didn't like them until I ported them, but since I have done that it's all I use now! I'll get some photos up soon! I hope that you find a Distillate Series Pete!!!Cheers!

I know I've seen this bass before here at the Club, but it's great to see it again! I really like that neck recipe. Very unique instrument you have there; I'm sure it's hard to put down. Although I love my Maple/purpleheart necked Alembics, I hope to try one with a mahogany neck some day.

Hey Rob, You are absolutely right in that it's so hard to put down the Alembic once you start playing it. Especially when you have it amplified the way you want!! Like you, I would like to get a 5 string series Balanced K some day, or a 5string Distillate Series like mine!!!! (oh...what dreams are made of!!!) Anyway.....I still get compliments on the tones that my axe generates! Kudos to the Wickershams'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chalie,
Did you ever get a full build sheet on your Distillate?
What is the back wood on it?

Keep it low . . . you know the rest!

That is a magnificent axe. First Distillate series I have seen thus far. Beautiful neck recipe. If I were to get a 4 string fretless it would be in this direction.

Hey Pauldo!!!The Build record occurs around May 14, 2004. This Bass was made for I think his name is Adam? I'll have to look it up. I believe the wood on the back is Maple though.

Ok. The Body is Ash with Vermilion top. The Neck consists of mahogany outside pair with Maple and Walnut for the center pair. The actual photos are under factory to customer under "Adam's getting another Custom Distillate" (May 14,2004)
