Hi there,

I've been wanting to do a longer piece for awhile, so here's this...it'll be part of an album due in December. But I'm trying to get this together for an upcoming performance next week in Altadena.

It's about fifteen minutes. Give a listen if you care to. It's my typical style, slightly campy, slightly cool. There's some musical payoffs...I hope!

I wanted to note that the beautiful playing styles of Dave Houck and Jan Olaf-Strandberg were inspirational; thanks guys!

I'll probably leave the link up only for a couple days.

Hugh, this is utterly fantastic. I hope everyone else on the forum checks it out, too! I'd like to know your set-up, rig, etc. But most importantly, it's just plain cool.

Hey, thanks guys. I just did another round of edits and I feel much happier now. But Soundcloud doesn't let you update files unless you subscribe. Argh! But the feedback helped.

Oddmeter, it's really not so much the set up as the bass, I think. That long scale neck with high tension strings. I'm recording direct with some delay. When I play live I've been using a stereo set up and it sounds great. So now I've gotta play this piece all week. The only thing I need to add is something for the ocean sounds. I'm trying to keep the set up as small as possible, but here's what it looked like last time....

Hey, does anyone remember when John Judge was talking about his design for a short scale piccolo bass...? I'm still interested in one of those...

Simon, Craig, thanks.

Art, thanks for finding that thread...whatever happened? Pinch harmonics/tremolo/insane vibrato...like I said, I'll take one....

Nice composition, lots of nuances...jeeze I wish I could motivate myself into getting something on record, I have all the software, devices, a Yamaha Portable Grand Piano and guitars as well as my Alembic MK but I just don't seem to have the time, what with the band, work and general stuff at home...

Terry, thanks. Dave, you too. I got set up for live performance and tried it out, and it sounds good; not too hard, and it goes by fast. It doesn't feel like fifteen minutes. Thank you, again.

Wolf, thanks.

Hieronymous,

I'm shootin' for December with this. Debating whether to put it out on vinyl -- green vinyl, of course. Expensive, but on the other hand, it seems like something that should be.

Ok, I finalized the live setup, and it works beautifully....
