Shaun, Yeah, it's cold here in California too. Heck, we're going to be back down in the 70's this week! (Runs for cover...) :-) Ken (TEO) |

Hey Ken, you're down in the 70's? I'm surprised you can type, your fingers must be frozen solid! (and they say that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit...) I can hardly remember the last time we were IN the 70's...weatherwise of course. The OTHER 70s I remember perfectly well. In fact I spend most of my spare time listening to them, lol Shaun

Shaun, that's degrees fahrenheit and not celsius. Speaking of sarcasm... Sam |

In celsius at 70 degrees Ken'd be bones & vapor... and since I'm only an an hour away from him, I'd be in trouble too. Valentino |

Hey Val (Since we're COMPLETELY off topic now...) So what would we have to do to make sure our necks are adjusted properly at 70C? (on the Alembics, that is) (back on topic) Hey Shaun...how about Taurehuine? (wood of darkness) Ken (TEO) |

Ken, at that temperature (roughly 158 degrees Farenheit) the only thing you can try , is to pray (quickly, before you evaporate). Valentino |

You mean you don't regularly get those temperatures in California? (sorry, the sarcasm's kicked in again). Ken, I think I'm going to sit on the name until I get the bass, and I'll see what it inspires. Whilst looking at the pattern on the original piece of wood chosen for the top (241 in the superb walnut woodbank) a friend said it looked to him like an "eagle flying through the hands of God", which I thought was pretty incredible (I also saw it as an eagle hovering over a mountain with hills and a valley below). Unfortunately my Elvish doesn't quite run that far, so I've got some reading up to do (and I've still got to get that book)! Not that I've settled on that of course...in fact this could be as tough as deciding the top wood! BTW, I spoke to James at the Bass Centre on Friday who informed me that both the bass and Graham had arrived back safely, and the bass was in storage (I didn't know they had to quarantine basses!). Apparently I should be receiving it some time towards the end of next week. Graham apparently described the bass as "beautiful"... Cheers Shaun |

Shaun, I just had the pleasure of gazing upon the pictures of your new bass and I must say that it is truly a masterpiece. The walnut top is simply stunning and worthy of the Triple O body shape. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Jeff |

Jeff Many, many thanks for your kind words. Coming from a man who has such an awe-inspiring, mind-boggling instrument on the way, that really does mean a lot! Apparently it arrives at the Bass Centre tomorrow, which means I should have it by the middle of next week at the latest. I have to admit the wait is driving me nuts! All the best Shaun |

My bass arrived Friday! After unpacking the carton, I sat and waited for a couple of minutes before opening the case; after all, I'd waited 20-odd years for this. What if it was a disappointment? Well, as I opened the case my jaw just dropped. To say it surpasses my wildest expectations is a gross understatement. I cannot believe how incredible that walnut top is; the photos don't begin to do it justice. Its virtually holographic! The depth of figure is unbelievable! And it just plays so amazingly! The only thing is, I haven't been able to plug it in yet.... I keep picking it up and then putting it down again just so I can look at it some more! I've already spoken to Valentino to express my gratitude to all at Alembic for creating such a masterpiece. So far as I'm concerned, after receiving this, the tagline has to be "there can be only one". Utterly without parallel. Right, I'm off to look at it some more....I may eventually get round to plugging it in as well! Peace Shaun |

And unlike many things in life, the feeling that you're experiencing now will not wear off...everytime you see her, or even think about her, a feeling of happiness & well-being will come over you. Sort of an "anti-depressant", I guess! (Who needs drugs when you have 'Superb Walnut'!) Sincere congratulations, Shaun! Chris |

Shaun, What Chris said is absolutely true. I still walk into my studio and just stare at my Rogue for a few minutes before I pick it up. When I play, the sound is always amazing. Enjoy! Ken (TEO) |

Shaun, Wonderful bass, I wish I was ballsy enough to sling something like that around my neck. I do have one question, and I hope I didn't miss this in the thread, but it looks like you have signature electronics and a dummy humcaneller? Is this cosmetic or functional? Either way, it's a nice touch. Mike

Hi guys! Unfortunately an inordinately busy life has kept me away from my new baby for a couple of days, so I still haven't had chance to plug her in. One day this week ...speaking of amps, LOL, I'm not sure my old Trace is gonna bring out the best in it; at some stage I'm going to have to look at another upgrade methinks (oh my aching bank balance!). I've got to admit, I've taken to having a quick peek at the bass each night as I go to bed. I still don't think its sunk in! Mike, yep, those are signature electronics with a dummy humcanceller. It is actually a functioning unit, but isn't wired up. Susan was kind enough to allow me to have one fitted for cosmetic purposes (it just completes the look for me; sorry, I'm just fussy about these things!) I will be eternally in her debt.... All the best Shaun

Hi Ken! Wasn't sure whether to go to my thread or yours,LOL, but seeing as its my bass we were talking about, here I am. That's exactly how I figured it should be pronounced, but as both words are relatively new to me wanted to make sure before I started telling everyboy (I mean, can you imagine naming my own bass in Elvish and then pronouncing it wrong? How much of a dummy would I look? Of course most people wouldn't know the difference anyway, LOL). Anyway, I figure your 2nd opinion is good enough for me! So, Sorne-Raama it is!!!!! Thanks to both you and Sam! |

Glad to help Shaun. Actually due to you and Ken getting new basses I've been re-reading the LOR triligy. It's been about 30 years and seems I've forgotten a lot of details. Congratulations on the new bass, Ken. One day I'll be in the custom ranks, hopefully. Sam |

Congratulations Ken! What's the spec? I must say I'm not jealous at all.....er, alright, maybe just a little bit. Ok, a heck of a lot ! I'll bet you can't wait! BTW I'm still working my way through all the new threads and postings; I've got a lot of catching up to do. Sam - good to hear you reread the trilogy. I read it most years in my teens, was sidetracked in my twenties and early thirties and rediscovered it a few years ago (maybe a couple of years before the first film came out); I've read it roughly once a year since. Still can't believe the first time I read it it only took me a week. I was eleven at the time!. That's how much I loved it; and it was a school week too! Anyway, hope you manage to find your way into the custom ranks sooner rather than later (go on, you know its worth it! )Best of luck! |
