Lo & behold, my band finally has our website up. The link is http://www.pickled-beats.com.
The "tunes" page features MP3s of many PB originals. I played either my Distillate or Epics on all of them except "Bahama Beach", where I used my Guild Starfire fretless.

Just played the first song, the bass sounds very good; smooth playing, clean recording, nice tone.

It all sounds good. Nice mix of styles I happen to like. Sounds like you have some good chemistry in the band. If you're ever up Milwaukee way, I'd love to hear you in person!

Very nice website, too. Good presentation - seems like it would be easy to get a feel for what would you'd hear in one of your shows.

Thanks Dave & Bill,
We do about 50/50 Original / cover tunes at regular gigs to keep the crowd happy. One of the guitarists has a home studio, so we can work on our stuff and friends songs pretty much at our leisure. We aren't traveling the band currently. Just a bunch of weekend warriors with checkered pasts.

Pickled BEATS will be playing at 602 North, a club in Glendale Heights, IL on Friday March 19. This is a "Battle of the Bands" with us, Spear Fish and Khaos Theory. I'll be using my Epics again. PB plays 9-10, doing a mix of our originals and covers. The winner by popular vote gets to come back for another battle (the finals) in April.

Mike,

I've been to 602 North a few times, but never played there. Was wondering, do you have to bring your gear or do they have house gear that people use? Good luck on Friday, I plan on checking your set out.

Thanks Kevin,
I was hoping to see you again (and maybe your new deliveries - Mark King & Series II).
No, 602 does not have stage gear on the weekends, except for monitors and PA mains, mics and stands. I'm using a slightly smaller rig currently on stage, a Workingman's 12 and a Goliath III, but I'll have both of my Epics along. Gary Belniak and I are also backing a young guitarist/vocalist named Noah Gabriel on Saturday at River Lane in Geneva. I'll be playing fretless for Noah's show.

Thanks Hollis,

(post-mortem) I had a pretty good show. The folks were nice and the sound guys complimented us. The club actually passed out ballots to patrons to vote the winner, and since we were on first I don't know how we did in the final tabulation. It was a bit of a weird night, our lead guitarist was having signal fade-outs (a loose cord), I set up an extention cabinet and never plugged it in, our drummer broke his snare midway through our set and had to borrow from one of the other groups drummers. But we had friends and family out, so the crowd was cool.

Also I want to say hi to Kevin K again. We DO need to get together and swap stories, or trade 8s or somthing.

Mike: Glad you had a good night, despite life's little challenges. It's funny how there are times any one of those things can make everything difficult, while other times - everyone takes it in stride. Hope your bandmates felt as good as you did.

You're right Bill,
We actually took the problems in stride. Everyone had some minor goofs, and we wound up not winning the battle. But we knew it would be a long shot anyway. 602 is catering to the youngest crowd of any club in the area, and the winning band had a girl lead singing (bare midriff and all). But we got a decent recording of the night and some excellent pictures (Thanks Robin). I'll post some when I get a copy.

Mike,

You guys played better then the winning band, but you were not as sexy. Oh well, if the contest was based on talent, then we have a different story. Good selection of songs. I especially like the sax/keyboard player and what he brings to the sound. Of course, the bass sounds great...you didn't play your fretless, did you? Let me know when the next gig is. I will let you know when I am playing next too.

Hi Kevin,
No, I didn't get to use the fretless Epic Friday night. But that was all I played on Saturday with Noah Gabriel and Gary Belniak out at River Lane.
Absolutely lets keep in touch! I have never seen a Series (I or II) in person, so I'm gonna hold you to letting me check out your new baby when it arrives! :^)

Of course...as long as I get to try out one of those Epics. (Fretless one prefered...never played fretless except at guitar stores.) I think that my next Alembic will be fretless.

Deal! (even if only at a practice) I've actually got two fretless, my Epic and my old Guild Starfire, which I had defretted back when I got my fretted Epic. We'll be in touch

Thanks, guys
Hollis - the hat is a Chi-Chi Rodiguez I bought a couple of years ago (gotta hide that hairline, too bad about my unhidable waistline)

Keavin - we do a combo of originals and rock covers. 14 of the originals have excerpts on our website:

Gary Belniak and I are playing tonight at River Lane in Geneva with Noah Gabriel (an original singer-guitarist). It's an acoustic show, and I'll be playing my fretless Epic on which I just had some corrective neck work done.
Oh boy, oh boy! Playing tonight!

Listening to you Chicago guys is making me all nostolgic. I spent some good years in Rockford from about '64-'69. As I get older I find myself visiting the past more and more. Healthy? Maybe, maybe not, but I do. I wonder what became of all of my old friends, my neighborhood, etc.
Anyway, have a great show tonight, Mike! Wish I could be there.

Sam
