Mike ...nock them death ...well ....oh ...uhuh ...break a leg ....oh ...(even worse) ...anyway ...enjoy yourself!

Sam ...visiting the past is a good thing as for looking how to straight out a line right through where you are now to the future. I mean to say ...you're definitley up to some new band-mates for playing together so ...it seems quite logic and good that you re"run" something of your past ...a question of taking a good start!!!

Boy, Oh Boy!

I'm playing an acoustic show with Noah Gabriel at River Lane in Geneva, IL this Saturday starting at about 9 pm. It might be just we two or there might be a percussionist. I'll be playing my fretless Epic through a G&K Backline 110 (a remarkable little amp).

Hope to see some folks out

Mike,

I don't know about this Saturday, but somewhere I read about you playing on May 29th. If you can, please give me the info on that gig. I think you mentioned playing with another band you're in. Something about Dead tunes. If it is still on and close by, I will check it out.

Hi Kevin,
Yeah, I'm playing with my Grateful Dead cover band, "Ragweed", at The Onion Pub & Brewery on Saturday, May 29th from 8 pm to 11 or 11:30 pm (Time was revised) in their outdoor beer garden (or inside if it's raining). The Onion Pub is at 22221 Pepper Road in Lake Barrington (847 area code). The show is all mid-70s Dead tunes, and we split the show into two long sets.
Meanwhile, Pickled BEATS has several shows booked into the summer that I'll be promoting as they approach.

And now it's time to LET THE PROMOTION BEGIN!

Pickled BEATS will be playing the beer garden at O'Brien's Pub & Grill (formerly Bistro America) at 12 N. River St. in Batavia several times this summer. The first date is Saturday, June 5th from 8:30 -12 pm. We had a great time here last summer, and we'll have some new original material, some new covers, and special guests as well.

Excellent!
I'm putting a set of Thomastic Jazz Flats on my Distillate for this show, and I'll bring my fretted Epic as a backup. Kevin K said he's going to be there as well, so the night shoud be very cool!
(Showing my enthusiasm) :-)

Hi Mike: Thanks for welcoming Nancy and me at your Ragweed show last night. The bad rocked, but you and your Distillate sounded great! I guess the combination of the Distillate and the TI Jazz flats (32 LOL) came as close as I've heard to Phil Lesh's Osaage Orange sound. Sorry we had to leave during Lady with a Fan, but we had a long drive ahead of us. Nancy wants to come down for at least one of the Pickled Beats dates, so you'll probably see us again then.

BTW. Your Distillate looks great. What is the top wood? Koa? It really stuck out - even from a distance. It's a very pretty instrument.

Hi Bill, and thanks a million to you and Nancy for coming down. I really appreciate it. Thanks for your kind comments. We had a blast, and I got some good tape (minidisc). The TIs really do bring out the "Old School" sound, don't they? I was quite pleasantly suprised by how different the Distillate sounds compared to stringing with Rotosounds, or even DR. The top wood is Flame Koa.
Too bad we didn't get to play outside, but it was less than optimum. I hope you're staying dry! Keep encouraging Andy. It sounds like he's on a great start to communing with the Muse. I'll be happy to see you again.

More gigs!

This Thursday, PB's lead player, drummer and myself will be backing Noah Gabriel at Swedish Days in Geneva, Illinois from 5 pm to 7 pm on an outdoor stage next to River Lane pub. Noah is a young singer/guitarist with some really cool original tunes.

Then on Friday, Pickled BEATS returns to O'Briens Pub & Grill in Batavia from 8:30 pm to midnight in their beer garden. If the weather is inclement, we'll be inside.

Weather looks to be good (although I can't sell our fearless leader that a propane space heater would be a good addition to the gear lineup for tonight) with clear skies (Yaay!) and temps in the middle 50s (boo!) . You can uncross with impunity and confidence.
The forecast calls for guest appearances, friends, and appropriate attire.
:-)

Well, we all survived the 4th of July weekend, and I survived moving into a new townhome. Now Pickled BEATS is playing this Friday, July 9th at Palace Billiards on Roosevelt Rd. in Villa Park, IL. It's an all ages show from 9:30 PM - 1 AM.

BACK TO THE BEER GARDEN!
Pickled BEATS returns (yet again) to O'Brien's Pub & Grill in Batavia, IL on Saturday, July 24th from 8:30 to midnight. We've played here several times, and we always have a good sound and good turnout. See ya if you're nearby.

I'm doing 3 shows with 2 bands in one day! This Saturday, Aug. 21 Gary Belniak (the lead guitarist from Pickled BEATS) and I will play a set with Noah Gabriel at "Dog Days" in Batavia, IL starting at 5:30 pm. We'll be on an outside stage next to the Police Dept.
Then about 7:30 or so we'll be playing again with Noah at Bobstock on a farm just off of Rt.47. After Noah's set, Pickled BEATS will do a full set. Stay tuned for another gig next week.
:-) Mike
P.S. Gary is playing in at least 4 sets that day.

Mike,

Sounds like a fun weekend for you. I can't make it to the festival, I think I may be playing that night too. I will try for the next show.

Hi Kevin,
Now don't be shy. :-)
Tell us where and when your gig is (if it lines up). There's nothing wrong with a little self (and Alembic) promotion.

There's nothing like a busy month! :-)
Pickled BEATS will be playing at Synergy II on Roosevelt Rd. in West Chicago this coming Saturday, Aug. 28th. This is a nice club with a great PA! PB will open the night from 9:30 to 10:20, then Dearly Departed will finish up. There is a cover charge.

Mike,

It is a cool place for bands to play at. I have a wedding to go to this weekend or I would be there. We'll have to get together again some weekend this fall and fuss around on our basses.

How was this past weekend's festival?

Hi Kevin,
This last weekend was great - big fun X 3. I don't own a digital camera, so I have to rely on the kindness of fans/significant others to the band to gain access to images. Of course, I record almost every show to minidisc, and then burn CDs for band review.
Yes, I'd love to get together again. I don't know if you saw that I'm adjusting the setup on my fretless for better mwah and easier playing (I hope). So far, so good.
See you soon,
Mike

I need to post quicker sometimes. Gary Belniak, a percussionist named Andy and I are backing Noah Gabriel tonight at River Lane in Geneva. We're one block west of the Fox River and less than one block north of Roosevelt Road for those in the area.
We start at 9 or 9:30. I'll be fretless tonight.

Brother Adriaan,

"Getfer 'n lapoep" (BTW it's not the "Westvlaams" dialect written here but plain "Aantwaarps" )
Or:
"Geef er een lap op"
Or:
"Geef er een slag op"
Means indeed:
"Hit it"!!!!

Paul TBO

"Gefter 'n laptop" ...hehehe ..."Geef haar een schootcomputer" ...DIE moet ik onthouden!!!!

Sorry for the Dutch/Flemish wabble guys!

Truely, I qualify as an amateur. They called my name during "Little Wing" for a solo Friday. I started fine, then fell off the cliff (I need to practice modes above 12th fret - among other things).

Next public gigs in two weeks.

I like playing Little Wing. It was on the set list for the last several projects I was in.
