My home town was a mecca in Bergen County for Dead Heads. My brothers had all the lp's but it never really spoke to me. Heres one with a custom koa Spoiler 6 in the early 90's.

Yeah i should have looked a bit harder. It sure is a beauty. I have a weakness for élan basses. That dark top with the light edging of maple showing looks very spectacular.
How are you finding the brightness of the tone?

It is bright, but it's full. I just added a 15" extension cabinet to my amp set up for a little more low end punch. I've always played with a bit of a trebly edge so it works for me. The filter always seems to end up wide open with the bass boost on, treble boost off but not cut... I've found my sound.

It was taken by my other half at the festival I played at last night. The colours were all strange so I changed it to monochrome and messed around with it in iphoto.

I recall offering to do that my self a few years back, I produced a book from my touring pictures using an on-line service which would be pretty easy to create one for members photo's.

I'd still be happy to do it if there was any interest but obviously would need the best resolution pictures to make it good quality and a bit of info on the person and/or alembic instrument.
lemme know.

This is what happens when you subscribe threads on the email... no pics= little info. I haven't noticed, until I came to the page to check the sticker everyone's talking about (and of which I'd like me one as well), Kimberly's rig!!!!! I'm WAY more curious now! So, Kimberly... Left handed, 6 strings Epic (+1 for us Epic caretakers), strung upside-down a-la Haslip, AND a Roland GK system? Is this a solo gig, as it seems to me from one of the pics? What do you use off-board? Please do tell! :-) :-) :-)

Hi Kimberley, a question if I may. Is it possible to slap and pop on bass if you play bass with the lowest string closest to the floor?
I can't imagine that being an easy thing to do.

Wow !
Thanks Dave for bringing this clip to our attention. It will never cease to amaze me how our forum member with the "highest smiley density in posts" can play the bass. Obviously, I shall convert my basses to upside-down, it looks sooo much easier :-) now where to find a nut and a bridge ?

cheers and all the best in 2013,

Hey Rusty,
I see your gigs are supervised by Gumby & Pokey. I always have my Dead Bear, Scarlet Begonias overseeing my musical endeavors... :-)

Love the bear Mike! I saw the Gumby & Pokey in the checkout line at Fry's & had to have them! I used to love them when I was a kid! I put them on my amp to prove to my bandmates that I am, in fact, NOT playing too loud or Gumby would fall flat on his face! LOL!

The bar bridge is original. I recently replaced the tailpiece from a brass/timber to a solid brass. Long scale 34" no battery compartment.

Hi Guys! :-)

Mild hijack under the guise of catching up. ;)

Delano, long story over many years with my 'slap technique'. Honestly the simple mechanics of having the 'primary slap strings' being B,E,A on the bottom in itself requires reaching over the top of the D,G,C strings to reach them. At the same time from having my thumb on the top of my left hand (and missing half of it from the joint out) and my picking fingers on the bottom, (I hope that makes sense). This required me to develop a 'quasi' slap method that had me 'flailing around' for many years trying to emulate slap bass. And it's still a work in process, as is my music overall, but it's starting to work finally! :-) True slap? Naaahhh...not even close. Effective for what I do? Works for me for now til I learn something else. :-)

Christian, Peter, Paul, glad you guys like! I appreciate the compliments! :-)

Dave, thanks for the 'tech support'! :-)

Yep, I'm still using my RC-50 looper. The pedal board has changed some. New format with road cases. Signal chain starts going into a splitter, which one line goes direct to the mixer, one goes to a ME-50B. Stereo out, going to an Eventide PitchFactor. Stereo out going to an Adrenalinn III. Stereo out going to the looper. Of course this signal path arrangement does have a tendency to change and I'll end up with cables going all over everywhere with way too many line signals running around. Then I'll start all over again. :D

Guess that's it so, back to the regularly scheduled programming. ;)

Thanks Guys! :-)

Best Regards,

Kimberly :-)

Now that is a cool pose with a super cool bass.

I'm a closet Exploiter bass fan but i think it would have too much stage presence for the jazz funk type of gigs I do but I guess it would be kind of cool in a reggae band. :-)

Anyone got a picture of a Dragon's wing bass in a gig situation?

I can say the same, I find Exploiter bodyshape very captivating, but can't imagine myself getting into one of my samba gigs with one in hand since they still think bass just as Precisions only. P-Basses sounds great, but they are simply not me...

I hear you, Dean! I was just diagnosed with arthritis in my hips. A perfect complement to being a new parent. Still, it beats the alternative.

I'm loving all these shots. Some basses I've never seen and some old friends. I'm also loving the fact that Alembic instruments travel from honky tonks to the most upscale of establishments.

Slawie, what's the serial number on that straight bar bridged bass? It looks like it might have originally had caramel pickups. I'm wondering if it might have been the original home of the pickups in my Starfire.

Hey Edwin,
The serial number is 75-251S
As far as I know the pick ups are original
They are the single screw types with the round connectors

Ah, mine are older than that, I think. They are also single screw and are trapezoidal inside the rectangular shell. The connectors are RCA.

The '88 Spoiler is tuned one step below the low strings of a five string (ADGC) I use it for two songs: Sad but true and Whiskey in the jar.
The Elan 5 is used on songs I play with a pick ('88 and up Metallica songs)
The '83 Spoiler on older 'tallica tunes songs played with the fingers (AXY = best thumbrest ever) and to keep the show going for some songs played with a pick.

I've got to reiterate once again that I think it's so awesome that Alembics can cover so much musical territory and sound so different doing it.

BTW, I checked your site, fcbass and it gave me a Spinal Tap moment with a page none more black and none of the apparent promised info on effects and amps.

Nope, that's the barrister's job. Solicitors are behind the scenes. I figure the dreads got the wig function covered. I like the idea of someone with jazzy's hair representing me as it conveys a sense of my self-perception from back when I had serious hair.

Going by the obvious age of Matt's bass, I'd guess he has p/up selector, vol X2, Filter X2, Q switch X2, and p/up trimpot X2, Mario; on the really early ones the trims were front-mounted instead of in the cavity.

Someone else playing my Alembic:

Sepultallica

We had some fun tonight :-)
The singer/guitarplayer and I (Bass) switched places and did a Motorhead/Sepultura coversong (Orgasmatron)
Symen played my '83 Spoiler and I played my Squier Strat with an Alembic 4 string Jazz pickup. The humbucker I had in there was pretty bad and microphonic, with the Alembic pickup through a Tubescreamer into a Mesa combo I had a great sound :-)

The Strat with Alembic pickup:

(I had no long/slim screws, so I used a kinda rude mounting system) :-)

Noise level was somewhat acceptable... I might try it with a preamp if we're going to do such a crazy thing again :-)

Electronics on this (and its fretless sibling) are one superfilter channel, one series filter w/cvq, with a bunch of switches that let me switch high/band/low for the SF, filter in/out for the series filter, and let me put the two filters in series, plus mono/stereo switch.

Nice bass Mark. reminds me of Joe Bouchard's (of BOC fame). Always liked those batwing inlays.

Unfortunately it's particularly sharp but, here is a picture of me with lead singer Dennis Seaton from last night's Musical Youth gig.

A guitar based photo to even things up a bit. This is the Dragon Magic, former custom of the month. I used it for a documentary film about Musical Youth in a rehearsal studio. Seemed a pretty good idea.
DragonMagicMusicalYouth.jpg

It hasn't seen much action recently as I've been concentrating on the bass side of my playing. That's gonna switch again soon I can feel it.

Flip, is this Wha a Bass Wha or Guitar model? I'm increasingly unsatisfied with my Dunlop Cry-Baby Bass Wha since it chops off my Rogue's highs and I'm considering substitute it with a Guitar Wha... Sorry for hijack, guys, but does anybody has any advice?

My favorite bass wah is the old Morley Chrome Power Wah. It had the widest sweep I've ever heard. I've got one that goes between wh and volume and works great.

Wolf: Alembic & Mesa, always a good choice! :-)

Mario: It's an old Morley Power wah fuzz (from 1975)
Original for guitar I think, but with an extreme wide sweep.
I only use it for wah/fuzz sounds (with a Big Muff), see here
I never tried it with "normal" bass sounds though...
I'll see if I can try it in the next couple of days, I'm sure you won't miss highs with this pedal :-)

If you want one of these old ones and don't need the fuzz, best would be to get the Power Wah (PWO)
They are a lot cheaper, have the same Wah sound and you can switch between Wah/volume pedal mode.

I have one of those:

You are correct - the sweep is very wide and smooth and the fuzz is vicious. Sounds WAAYYYYY better for bass than guitar, IMO.

I'd use it more, but it sucks tone when in bypass mode - any suggestions?

Sorry for hijack.

I used to own a Morley Power Wah. Not only did it have a good fuzz but it was a good volume pedal. I regret selling it to a lead guitarist I used to play with.

Wild! Thanks, Flip, it is always great to know fuzzes that work good with active electronics, too. Have to check those Morley, probably the Power Wha, and the McCoy Bill is using (RMC3 looks really interesting).

Flip, I also have this tonekilling issue on the Dunlop, so I pass it trough a Boss LS-2 line selector as a "main bypass".

I've only done one full 2 hour gig with it so far so it's still a work in progress as I still need to be able to move the controls instinctively from one type of sound to another and know it's there before starting to play as it's not easy to tweak between notes on a busy bass line.

It really does look great, I love it. I actually play it more at home than I do my SII bass.
We are doing some big festivals this year, Camp Bestival and, The Isle of Wight Bestival so I may take one of the series basses there. 10's of thousands turn up at the Bestival I'm told..... Cool

Yesterday I uploaded onto youtube a video of a gig in 2003 which was the year I started doing gigs on bass. This was the first session I did with a singer called Gregory Peck.
I was using a Mesa boogie walkabout head and a Mesa boogie 2x10 powerhouse cab. Sound isn't great and you can hear the compressor in the video camera working hard.

I thank you for taking the time to listen... Rob, I just looked at your profile, we can't be more then a mile apart, likely closer. I thought I was the only Alembic player it town.

Yeah, Kenn. We probably are less than a mile apart. I'm sure we have many mutual musical acquaintances, too. My daughter used to work at Perry's in Narragansett when she was in college. She turned me on to Violin River, and gave me your business card. I guess she was friendly with the singer and her husband. It's a small world. Anyway, I've been a big fan ever since!

Bill,
The sound system belongs to the guitarist and I didn't get a good look at it. No time this was a surprise party and we barely had time to get a song list together.
Both gigs were completely different 1 with long sustained notes and tones and the other freewheeling fun. Each rewarding in themselves.
Peace,
Pete

Here are some video's shot with phone's and small digital camera's from that gig last week. We fumbled a few changes from lack of rehearsal but overall the band sounded great and the audience loved it.

Here's a few pics from our gig in Clinton, CT on the Green. One with Bianca my Europa 6 and one with Zorro my Epic 5 fretless. Playing through my SWR SM900 amp into an AccuGroove El Whappo. I also played through my SWR SM400 through a Goliath 4x10 as a back up. SM900 starting to show years of wear.

My first gig with my Europa was great! This bass is incredible! It is full & punchy & has great attack. You can hear & feel every note! It plays like a dream too. My fingers were not nearly as sore at the end of the night as they usually are on my SCSD.

Simon, I am definitely contented with this bass! I've waited all my life to have a bass like this!

Graeme, I made the cable myself because I wanted a short cable for small venues. Where this picture was taken I'm never more than 5 feet away from my amp so the 20 foot cable that it came with is overkill. So I got some great advice from Jimmy Johnson & Keith Humphrey on what connectors & cable to use. Keith suggested this Canare L-4E6S cable which comes in many colors & is smaller in diameter than the Alembic cable so it is very flexible.

Edwin, I can see how that reads now.... I meant it was the last time I took it out on a gig. I probably should have said it was the most recent gig I did with the bass. She's a keeper. If you ever see it up for sale you know it's been stolen so call the cops. :-)

This bass has come a long way to do a gig tonight. Monday it was in Australia, Friday it's on a gig in the UK. The sound of this bass is nothing short of incredible. I can hear why Stanley loves them. it has a certain sweetness of tone that the 34 inch scales don't have. Incidentally how cool is it to do your first straight ahead jazz gig on an alembic...!!!!

This bass has come a long way to do a gig tonight. Monday it was in Australia, Friday it's on a gig in the UK depping on bass for a band called 'From Scratch" who play calypso infused Jazz.
I have to say though, sound of this bass is nothing short of incredible. I can hear why Stanley & Pierre-Yves love them. A series shortie has a certain sweetness of tone that the 34 inch scales don't have. Incidentally this was my first ever full straight ahead jazz gig and how cool do it on a series alembic. It's earned it's place on next weeks jazz funk gig. I have a couple of clarkee tracks in the set list so that will be perfect.

There is a video but that won't be hitting the internet anytime. I'm doing a gig next week with my own NotStrictlyJazz Quartet which will be within my comfort zone so it will be a better recording.

Thank You. The Basses are the Best there are. Obviously! The Wall of sound can actually be bigger. Didn't need anymore for this event. But the sound is incredible!!! I designed and built the 1X15 cabinets and replaced all the drivers in the Eden 4X10 cabinets. Used all Beyma Drivers. Best sounding Rig I ever heard!!! Took me a while to build one capable of reproducing the full range of an Alembic Bass. This system does it great. Full 20-20KHZ response. And with all that power it is incredibly clear. Can be expanded with more cabinets and up to 15000 Watts! Haven't needed to do that yet though. This set up does the Job!!!

The guitarist in my new band looked a bit shocked when I told him my fender pre / QSC power set up could run at 2400 watts. I reckon his head would explode if I turned up with your rig Willie. :-)

This system scares everybody when they first see it. They think it's all about volume and that I'll overpower everyone. They don't understand that it is about TONE! And they don't understand why a Bass needs a Rig with such a wide frequency response. But they don't understand the capabilities of an Alembic Bass and what it takes to faithfully reproduce it's sound until they hear it. But Yes, of course I can get that tone at a very high volume level and still be crystal clear. The 10" Mid Bass drivers and Super Tweeters Really helped with the mid's and highs being so clear. The 15G40 15" Absolutely Thunders down to the lowest notes of my 5 string! And all of that POWER Makes Really Helps Too

I take a different approach to bass than most. I use Sony MDR-7506 headphones for everything, and you should too. But you won't know why - I mean really have the lightbulb appear above your head - until you do it yourself.

No amount of my yammering can possibly convey what listening to your own rig through flat-response headphones can teach you in thirty seconds.

And that's just the first part. The second - and most important - part is to listen to your rig with drums, at full roar from across the room! Again, you won't really get it until you do it yourself. The reason is because drums do all sorts of weird *trump to your bass tone and unless you're hip to it you won't even know about it until you're halfway through the first song.

Drums soak up all kinds of lows and mids, and I'll make a flat-out prediction here that your drummer doesn't own a tuner (if they do, buy them gifts. Talk nicely to them. That's a "unicorn drummer," and they're far and few between).

If the floor tom and bass drum(s) are out of tune with each other by even a few cents (much less, tuned to whatever tuning your drummer thought sounded spiffy in his basement) there goes your carefully-crafted 250-500 "punch."

You can throw as much wattage as you want at it, but it'll still sound flabby, like someone beating a headboard against the wall in the next room at a cheap hotel (I've actually experienced this way too many times on tour). Buy your drummer a $15 tuner and have him pick a key (G is popular) and your life will improve immeasurably.

The reason you want to hear your rig from across the room (don't you love wireless?) with a drummer bashing away is simply because we don't have ears in our knees. Standing in front of a bass amp (or worse, beside it) is the absolute worst place in the room to hear your bass. Sound waves from low notes are fifty feet long.

Low frequencies are omnidirectional (which is why you can hide the woofer from your home entertainment setup behind the couch) and denote power, and higher frequencies are directional, and denote definition.

I used a minimoog for decades (mostly for "Dreamweaver," ha ha) and discovered that calling up a saw toothed wave and lopping the top off gives you a colorless bassoon-like tone, but adding high frequencies back gives you everything from a piercing solo violin screech to a mellow oboe sound, and everything in between.

The more you fiddle with those upper harmonics and partials, the more it defines the characteristics of vastly different instruments. It's the same thing with digital modeling, because that's what they sampled in the first place! (All synthesis comes down to basically four waveforms.)

It's the same balancing act with electric bass with drums, whether you're aware of it or not. (They don't call you a "rhythm section" for nothin', stud.) Its all about the sound of the ensemble, and the nice thing is that when you get your "power" dialed in with the drums, your sound is defined by what you do with the upper harmonics.

*my new word for the same old ... well, you know.

I actually use very expensive flat response headphones most of the time when I play at home. I don't even turn on any power amps. Can't. I live in an apartment. So I know the sound through headphones. And although for noise and interference problems I prefer to use a cord when playing live I have used my wireless system to stand next to the soundman while he set my sound because I didn't want him trying to make my Alembic sound like a Fender Precision Bass. Which is all a lot of them know. With all that said. There is nothing like feeling the power of that Rig hitting you in the back and feeling the stage shake and your pant legs moving from the air moving. Headphones can't do that! To each his own. Most concert stages are clear of Backline amplification anyway nowadays with everyone using in ear monitors. But I like to Feel the Bass as well as hear it! I have seen some other people say that a good tube pre amp with a high powered PA style amp is a different sound compared to any combo or Hybrid setup. I totally agree. And I have certainly had enough people ,(Guitar Players), complain when they see a large Bass Rig. Tried explaining about sound reproduction. I'm tired of that argument!

Rustyg61...I play an Orion 6,an Epic 5, and a cool Mexi-Jazz through an original SWR 750 through originally an AccuGroove Tri210XL, and now an El Whappo. The amp is set dead flat and that's it. Pure tonal madness. Mark Wright is a bloody genius.

Rustyg61...we need to let Alembic players know about AccuGroove, especially the El Whappo. Mark Wright has solved the bass cabinet issue.

Steve, I totally agree with you about the El Whappos! Mark Wright is to speakers cabinets as Ron Wickersham is to basses & guitars! I often tell people that AccuGroove is the "Alembic" of speaker cabinets! I also have a Wedgie & use it for most gigs. It is more than adequate to keep up with the 2 guitars & acoustic drums in my classic rock band. I use the El Whappo for large venues or outdoors, but at only 58 pounds I could easily use it at every gig. I take every opportunity to sing the praises of both Alembic & AccuGroove, they are truly a match made in Heaven!

I thought this thread was about pictures of people playing their Basses. Seems to have gone off into Bass cabinet preferences. I know about the El Whappo. I didn't build my system blind. I've been studying speaker cabinet design and sound reproduction for years. I have another cabinet that is a 3 way isolated cabinet. Although because of the magnets it is heavier than the El Whappo and is 3 way. Not 4 way. I don't use compression horns. I don't use 10" woofers. My system may weigh more. But I'll put it up against anything out there. It is a 3 way system. With the different frequency ranges separately compressed, amplified and then reproduced by the correct driver for that frequency range. I'm sure I would love the sound of the El Whappo. It is the sound I was trying to create. I just did it on a large scale. And I prefer conventional magnets to Neo's. They may weigh less. But I wasn't going for light weight. I was going for TONE!!! I'll post a picture of my 3 way isolated cabinet that I designed and built with my brother. He is a master carpenter. Anyone have any pictures of themselves playing their Basses?

Yeah things have gone astray a little but still interesting to read. Anyway, here is a thread re-alighment picture... :-)

This was taken at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham at the annual ArtsFest in 2010.
That bass hasn't seen much stage action in recent years, and hopefully next year that will change.

Willie, AccuGroove uses 2 soft dome tweeters, not compression horns. The highs are much smoother than my Eden cabinets.

Jazzyvee, great to see you playing the Stanley! I'm used to seeing you with one of your Europas, so this is a nice picture indeed!

That's why I took the compression horns out of my Eden cabinets. The Beyma super tweeters I use have much smoother highs. And better frequency response. The horns only went to 14Khz. The tweeters I use go all the way to 20Khz. I also replaced the 10" Eminence Woofers with Beyma 10" Mid Bass Drivers. The Mids are so much clearer now. I designed The 15" cabinets internal volume and venting size to match the resonant frequency of the drivers. The Beyma 15G40 Drivers blow away the JBL E140 and E145 Drivers I used before. Pure Clear Thunder! And I love JBL. End result. A very HiFi sounding Bass Rig capable of extreme SPL! I was going for the same result as they were when they designed the El Whappo. A clear sounding system that could accurately reproduce he full dynamic and frequency range of my Alembic Basses. It is so nice to be able to hear them so clear. And Powerful! System response is 25-20Khz! SPL level? Never got to push it that hard to find out. But it's definitely up there.
Nice picture Jazzyvee. Good to get thread back to pictures. Beautiful Bass. Definitely start using that Bass more. Although you do have some other ones that are incredible! You seem to like the Europa Body shape like I do. Love your Quilted Maple 5 String. My 5 String Custom Europa is the best sounding 5 string I ever heard. Especially through my Rig! OMG!!!!

Yeah Willie the Europa's are my fave for 5 string basses. For 4 strings I prefer short scale then the Elan for a 34".
Like you my 5 string SII europa is an amazing sounding 5 string bass, something I've been told after virtually every gig I've done with it.
If these El Whappo's appear this side of the pond I will check them out.

Rusty, my favorite thing about that picture is that you dressed to match your bass. And you did it to perfection.

I'm such a nut about Monet that I have piles of books about his garden and I try to recreate his themes in our garden and then paint 'em (I call my style "Depressionist"). You are a monochromatic masterpiece. Every time I look at your Alembic, it looks like it was just lifted out of Monet's Japanese water garden:

Hell, I don't care if you can play a note. I'd hire you just to stand there with that bass. Give the act a much-needed touch of class.

Thanks alembikoa, I had a big lust crush on that bass for a number of years and the previous owner, poor_nigel, knew this and thankfully decided I should be the next owner. He is understandably very particular about where his superb instruments go to when they leave him so I was particularly honoured to be chosen to be the next (and hopefully the last) owner of this bass.

I'm not sure if the previous owners gigged with it at all but I doubt it was used much as it was spotless when I got it and it still is and I use it to practice with all the time.

Here is a picture of it in California accompanied by some of it's siblings.

The original owner of the "Almost Twins" Europa series II basses never played them, according to his son. I, and I am sure Thomas, was able to register my Twin with Alembic as a new bass. Here's the 4-string, for those who prefer an even number of strings.

Thanks Graeme! Just having fun! That's actually my light rig Ampeg SVT 7pro. My big rig is a SVT 4pro that I use at bigger venues if they don't have a good PA. I bi-amp it and run 2x18" Subs on the bottom and two 4x10 neo's for mids and highs. The best and worst decision I ever made in music was buying my first Alembic bass. The best because they are the best sounding and looking basses that I have ever seen or heard. I have yet to hear a sound system that can make them sound bad. Now for the bad, once you buy your first one, you get hooked and want/need another and another and well you get the picture!

Your big rig sounds like something I would love to try. I'm sure I've seen Stanley Clarke with something similar on a concert over here. Two SWR Big Ben cabs, two 4x10 cabs and a guitar amp. It must sound incredible even when not up loud.

Jazzy you are correct, it is probably even better not loud, because bass being omni-directional gets lost the farther you get away from the speakers especially the real low notes. That's because it's hard to move the air in the back of a room. That's why a bass has to have three or 4 times the power, and much more speaker surface than a guitar, which is directional and cuts through without having to move the air. When you go to a concert at a very large venue, they always have literally a wall of woofers and thousands of watts driving them to the point that the building shakes so that the bass is heard and felt (you can feel bass that you can't hear) throughout the venue. With that said that's where the 18's come in, they move air at high or low volume and at low volume if you don't have enough speaker surface the low notes will fall off pretty quickly.
I had a chance to see Stanley last year at a venue with a real high ceiling that seats 1600, and he had a rig similar to what you described. He was able to fill that venue with bass without playing loud. He does use two different amps for bass guitar and acoustic. He uses an Ampeg SVT 4pro (bi-amp) for splitting his high and low pickups on his guitars, and a SVT 2pro for his acoustic bass. The little fender amp covers the high frequencies on his tenor and piccolo basses. I've rambled enough, but in my opinion for what it’s worth an 18" or 15” with 4x10 is a great combination to cover the full spectrum of frequencies that you can get with an Alembic bass. BTW my SVT 4pro is in a rolling rack case because they are pretty heavy.

Hi Rob,

When I had the shielding upgrade done, as long as Ron was under the hood, I had the Q switches swapped out for continuously variable Q potentiometers.

Between the new pickups, the variable Qs, and the fact that I don't have to think about electronic noise based on which venue I am playing, it's really a completely different and revitalized bass. While it sounded excellent before, it had a much more limited (or maybe "targeted" is a better term) tone palette. Now it covers all that ground and much more.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the feedback and congrats on the new configuration. I've been thinking of doing a similar thing to one of my basses, I just keep hearing good things about the tonal flexibility with the CVQ switches. I might just end up making the change. Enjoy!

Thanks Rusty... yeah, I love the looks of that bass almost as much as I enjoy playing it. Just wait 'til you see the next one though... I'm told it's quite fetching. Shouldn't be too much longer. =)
