Commissioned 12/04 completed 12/05. The pictures above are from a "disposa-cam" for my insurer and the ones below are from a gig. I will post better pics when I can. Meanwhile check the much nicer ones that Mica kindly took for the FTC thread. I got this beauty in late December. Adjusted the truss rods, raised the action, practiced for a couple of hours and took her to a rock casual that night!  Tune the bass  Play the bass  Pretty Laminations ("Great Caesar's Ghost, I'm playing an Alembic!") Not a light bass, but the balance suits me perfectly. I notice the weight when carrying it much more than when playing it. I'm amazed at how easy and intuitive/logical the series II controls are. I thought I'd be confused and even caught out twiddling knobs, instead I was able to make subtle (and not so subtle), tone changes at will. To my ear it's the first electric bass I've ever played that behaves like an upright: you hear exactly what your fingers and the strings are doing. The dynamic range and sustain are astounding. Unfortunately my fingerboard cracked badly enough to see (pics taken with cell phone) and to hear: A rattle when fretting Bb on anywhere on the C string and in the top registers on the G and D strings! This necessitated a trip back to the mothership for repair. Sad, but stuff happens. Perhaps it was merely "...pining for the fjords." Or for a flyover of Taylor Mountain. Regardless the Alembicians (James IIRC), were able to heal her (imagine the bass in hospital: "So I waited and, O my brothers, I got a lot better munching away at eggiwegs, and lomticks of toast and lovely steakiwegs and then, one day, they said...") Appy-polly-loggies to Burgess and Kubrick. Anyway the repair went perfectly, the rattle is gone and we're reunited (like Peaches and Herb ;-) A huge "Thank You" to Greg at B&B and everyone at Alembic for making it happen! -dan | ||
